3 Things BTS Is Doing To Ensure Their New Single ‘Dynamite’ Becomes A Radio Hit In America

BTS’s new single “Dynamite” is slated to be released on Friday, August 21 (less than two full weeks from now), and all signs point to this being their biggest release yet. The track, which likely previews their next full-length (coming later in 2020), is already looking like it might become their first No. 1 on the Hot 100, and radio could play a big part in sending the tune to the top.

Here is a look at what BTS is doing to win over the support of American radio stations, which they have never enjoyed before.

Massive World Premiere

The team behind BTS has made it clear that with this single, they’re not going to sit around and hope that “Dynamite” becomes popular enough to be picked up by DJs and programmers across the U.S. Instead, the group’s supporters are borrowing a promotional plan from some of the biggest names in the business (such as Lady Gaga) by working with the radio stations in advance to secure guaranteed plays.

According to HitsDailyDouble, the band’s forthcoming single is already slated to receive a world premiere on “every major radio chain in the U.S.,” which is a huge get for any artist. BTS’s past releases have been largely ignored by the biggest players in the radio space, but now, before the public has even had a chance to hear “Dynamite,” it looks like those gatekeepers have already agreed to spin the tune at least once or twice.

Country-Wide Promotional Tour

Traditionally, artists like BTS who are willing to put in the time and effort to woo radio personalities and those creating the playlists to include their latest efforts in their rotations would travel across the U.S., visiting stations for sit-downs and meet-and-greets. That has been a tried-and-true method in the business for some time now, but sadly, it’s not really an option due to the coronavirus.

Instead of sending BTS out on the road to promote “Dynamite,” HitsDailyDouble reports that Columbia, the septet’s record label in the U.S., has sent several radio promotions staff out on tour buses (which aren’t being used for musicians trekking around playing shows at the moment) to visit radio programmers in person. The goal is to play them the future smash and impress them with this show of support for the K-pop titans.

Switching Languages

In the past year or two, as BTS ascended from a growing phenomenon to the biggest name in the business, the group has worked hard to score a radio hit…but sadly, they haven’t been able to land one. They’ve proven their popularity time and time again and partnered with some of the biggest names in the industry (Halsey, Nicki Minaj and Sia, to name just a few), but a radio win continues to elude them.

The fact that they largely perform in a language other than English may have held them back…until now. “Dynamite” is slated to be BTS’s first major all-English single, and that could make all the difference when it comes to programmers deciding whether or not to include the tune in their rotations.
