7 Top Alcohol-Free Drinks Brands Available For Home Delivery

After weeks of heading to the liquor cabinet during the initial phase of the Coronavirus lockdown, recent stats from Alcohol Change UK show that many people are either now cutting back or even stopping drinking altogether. One of the brands mentioned here has reported online sales up 950% compared to this time last year. If cutting back on alcohol is your aim, there are plenty of excellent alcohol-free drink choices. Seedlip, the world’s first distilled non-alcoholic spirit, is made like a gin with botanicals but the predominant flavor is clove rather than juniper. Seedlip’s Spice 94 debuted in Selfridges in late 2015 with the first batch of 1000 bottles selling out in three weeks, the next, in three days and the third batch of 1000 in less than half an hour. Restaurants like Michelin-starred The Fat Duck and The Clove Club and popular cocktail bars like Dandelyan, The Savoy and The Ritz soon placed their orders. Five years later, Seedlip’s three blends: Spice 94, Garden 108 and Grove 42 are available in twenty cities worldwide. Seedlip offers customers recipes online to make non-alcoholic versions of favorite cocktails like: “Nogroni”, “Espresso Martino” or “Cosnopolitan.”

Everleaf (£18 for 50cl bottle), a bittersweet, non-alcoholic aperitif, made using eighteen sustainably sourced botanicals, was created by conservation biologist/bartender Paul Mathew (he owns The Hide in London). With Everleaf which launched in 2019, Mathew wanted “to make something non-alcoholic to give people more choice if they don’t want to drink alcohol but also to reflect the concept of sustainability – sustainable consumption alongside sustainably sourcing.” Mathew spent a year experimenting with plants, dehydrating samples, macerating and extracting to get the precise flavors he wanted. And in addition to using two of the world’s most expensive spices, saffron and Madagascar vanilla, Everleaf contains a very unusual botanical – Voodoo Lily (konjac) from China. The unusual blend has resulted in a superb aperitif, delicious on its own over ice or mixed with tonic or soda water.

Caleño is a new tropical non-alcoholic spirit inspired by founder Ellie Webb’s visit to Cali, Colombia. The city is well known for for salsa dancing and clubs and the people of Cali are known as los Caleños. The aperitif includes juniper, spice and citrus botanicals, steam-distilled in stainless steel drums. Ideal as a simple drink with tonic water and ice, enticing Cocktails with Caleño are also suggested on the company’s website, including “Dancing Queen” adding passionfruit and vanilla syrup and “Tropi-Cali” with a pineapple and fresh lemon juice base.

Jukes Cordialities (9 x 30ml £35) was born because London wine writer Matthew Jukes had “never found a sophisticated, non-alcoholic adult drink that is genuinely satisfying” so he decided to make his own. He partnered with Jack Hollihan who, while sharing a love of fine food and wine, noticed the lack of seriously rewarding, non-alcoholic drinks. After much research and testing, they created Jukes Cordialities, a series of drinks that do everything that wine does on the nose, palate and finish but without any alcohol. The drinks arrive in a beautiful package – a white embossed box, so you do feel you’ve received something special. The drinks are also very low in calories (13-16 calories/glass) as they’re made entirely from all natural, self-reproducing vegetables, fruit and natural flavorings. Nothing is wasted; all of their by-products are edible consumables (husks, fibres, pith and skins). There are three varieties to choose from: Jukes 1 is the white wine alternative; Jukes 6 is the red wine alternative; and Jukes 8 is Matthew Jukes’ take on a modern rosé. Mix each with water and serve neat or over ice.

Sister company to the popular Seedlip, Aecorn (50 cl, £19.99) is a new trio of non-alcoholic drinks launched in 2019, designed to have with food. Each has a complex, full flavor that enhances and enriches food. The Æcorn collection is made from 100% English grown Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier grapes. These grapes are pressed early and blended with herbs, roots and bitter botanicals to create a range of complex, bold and bitter non-alcoholic aperitifs. Æcorn Bitter Aperitif, Æcorn Dry White and Aromatic Red can each be served neat chilled, or with a splash of sparkling water over ice in a wine glass.

Ceder’s (50 cl,£19.95) is a gin alternative created in 2017 by husband and wife duo, Craig and Maria Hutchison who discovered a beautiful valley nestled in the Cederberg Mountains of the Western Cape, South Africa. The valley, which the couple now owns, is home to many intriguing botanicals, including Rooibos and Buchu, used for thousands of years by indigenous peoples of South Africa. It inspired them to distil classic gin and exotic Cape botanicals and then blend with Swedish water. This distilled non-alcoholic alt-gin is available in three blends. Classic is a floral blend of classic gin botanicals such as juniper and coriander, combined with hints of geranium and Cape floral fynbos. Crisp offers a refreshing blend of gin botanicals such as juniper and citrus, combined with cucumber and camomile. Wild is a spicy offering that combines juniper and ginger with clove and rooibos.

For beer lovers, Lucky Saint alcohol-free beer (£25 for 12 x 330ml bottles) is an excellent choice. This beer uses just four natural ingredients and is brewed in Bavaria exactly the same way as alcoholic beer. Lucky Saint is unfiltered for maximum flavor. Founder Luke Boase was determined to produce an alcohol-free beer that was “worth drinking and progressively brewed with impeccable taste.” He found a like-minded brewer in Germany and together they spent a year sourcing the ingredients, creating their own yeast and tailoring each part of the brewing process until they created an exceptional style and flavor.

Launched in 2019, Celtic Soul (70cl £25) is a non-alcoholic whiskey alternative. This new spirit featuring carefully distilled dark spirits, blends sweet vanilla, spices and oak cask wood flavors. Celtic Soul is from the same team that created Ceder’s alt-gin. This whiskey alternative can be served in the same way as its alcoholic inspiration – neat or mixed with ginger ale and garnished with a twist of orange.
