AC Milan Closing In On Double Signing As Former Juventus Star Mario Mandžukić Is Set To Return To Serie A

These are very hot hours in Milan’s winter transfer market window as Serie A giant AC Milan are very close to complete a hat-trick of signings.

According to several reports in Italy, Croatian striker Mario Mandžukić and Chelsea defender Fijayo Tomori are on the verge of signing for the Rossoneri.

Should their deals go as expected, they will become AC Milan’s second and third signings after last Friday the Italian team announced the arrival of Soualiho Meite from Torino.

The potential signing of Mandžukić comes as a surprise for AC Milan fans as the Croatian international has been repeatedly linked with a comeback at German side FC Bayern in recent months.

The 34-years-old will join Stefano Pioli’s side as a free agent and is set to arrive in Milan already on Sunday night, Italian transfer market pundit Gianluca Di Marzio reports.

The vice world champion of 2018 will complete the obligatory medical check and sign his contract already tomorrow morning, the report continues.

Over the last week, AC Milan sports director Paolo Maldini and Mandžukić’s agent Giovanni Branchini found an agreement over the player contract.

Calciomercato.com reports that the former Juventus striker agreed to a six months contract worth $1,8 million along with some add-on bonuses, as well as an option to an extension until June 2022 if the Rossoneri manage to qualify for the UEFA Champions League at the end of the season.

Should the deal receive the green light, it will be a surprising return to Serie A for Mario Mandžukić.

The 34-year-old left Juventus in December 2019, where he scored 44 goals in 162 games in all competitions with the Bianconeri.

During his career, Mandžukić won four Scudettos, three Coppa Italia titles and one Supercoppa Italiana with Juventus.

He also notably won the treble in his spell at FC Bayern Munich in 2012-13.

The player was waiting for the right opportunity to get back into the game, and despite his age, he wants to prove that he can still make an impact in a top-flight soccer competition.

The Croat was very determined to return to Italy after terminating his contract with Qatari side Al-Duhail in July and reportedly turned down bids from Turkish clubs weeks ago.

For all the Serie A fans, it will be exciting to see whether the 34-year-old and the 39-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic actually manage to bring back some domestic silverware to AC Milan after ten years.

However, Mandžukić will need some time to improve his physical condition, given his last competitive game dates back to March 2020.

In an attempt to aid their title ambitions, the Rossoneri are also set to add FC Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori to their defensive options.

According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 23-years-old is set to complete his short-term loan to AC Milan next week.

The agreement is expected to be completed next week on the basis of a loan deal with an option to buy for around $36 million.

The English international will arrive in Milan in the next few days to undergo his medical checks before signing his contract and becoming the latest new addition to head coach Stefano Pioli’s squad.

AC Milan currently lead the Serie A by three-points over arch-rivals Inter Milan and will play against Cagliari on Monday night.
