AEW Double Or Nothing Results: Winners And Losers Of Jacksonville PPV

AEW celebrated its one-year anniversary with the entertaining, if not long, Double or Nothing pay-per-view. Double or Nothing featured the crowning of a new TNT champion and a very fun Stadium Stampede match filled with high spots and delightful goofiness.

The event also had its share of surprise appearances, not the least of which was newcomer Brian Cage.

Winner: Brian Cage

Former IMPACT wrestling star Brian Cage made his surprising debut in the AEW Casino Ladder Match alongside Taz. He quickly made his presence felt by emerging from underneath a pile of plunder to seize the win.

Cage has already been announced as the next challenger for Jon Moxley’s AEW World Championship at Fyter Fest, in what should be an incredible matchup.

Loser: Lance Archer

Billed as an unstoppable monster who teased getting physical with Mike Tyson, tonight could have been the night that made Lance Archer for years to come.

Instead, he lost clean to Cody and did not get his Iron Mike confrontation. Archer is talented enough to shake this off, and it could even be argued that his stock didn’t suffer all that much by losing to AEW’s top babyface. But given what he could have gained with a win tonight, he had to be considered one of the night’s big losers.

Winner: Cody

Though some may scoff at the Executive Vice President picking up a win over a surging monster who needed it more, Cody has spent much of his existence in AEW losing big matches. Cody suffered pay-per-view losses to Chris Jericho at Full Gear—where he was banned from ever competing for the AEW Championship—and bitter rival MJF at AEW Revolution

Cody as TNT champion can add a world heavyweight gravitas to the newly commissioned title, not only because of his preexisting credibility, but also because, for Cody, this is a world title.

Loser: Shawn Spears

Despite being entertaining in his efforts, Shawn Spears was cast as an absolute joke in a losing effort against 51-year-old Dustin Rhodes.

After being publicly disgruntled in WWE to the point where he was granted his release during a time where the promotion wasn’t letting anybody else out of their contracts, this can’t be what Spears had in mind when he left the worldwide leader.

Stripped down to his underwear and garters with manager Tully Blanchard’s face plastered on his crotch, Spears has become the rare WWE-to-AEW defect who has gone backwards.

Winner: MJF

The AEW broadcasters really pushed MJF’s undefeated streak in the promotion, and in the end, he was able to survive against now-middling babyface Jungle Boy. MJF appears to be in line to not only receive a future world title shot, but also to win the title as AEW’s next great heel world champion.

Winner: Hikaru Shida

On the heels of the devastating news of Hana Kimura’s death, Hikaru Shida’s feel-good win over Nyla Rose in a very good match was a much-needed highlight. Shida’s win residually added to the life and legacy of Hana Kimura, who continues to be rightfully lionized after passing away at the age of 22.

Winner: The Stadium Stampede

This match had everything, with every wrestler being made to shine in a spot-filled, laugh-a-minute batch of creativity and entertainment. In the era of empty-arena wrestling, specially and cinematic matches have become all the rage. The Stadium Stampede was among the best to date.
