AEW Dynamite featured the in-ring debt of Matt Cardona while Jon Moxley and Darby Allin battled in the main event for the AEW World Championship. Dynamite also featured Eric Bischoff moderating an entertaining debate between Chris Jericho and a surprisingly talkative Orange Cassidy.

AEW Dynamite Results: Wednesday, August 5, 2020

The Dark Order def. The Young Bucks, FTR, Kenny Omega and Hangman Adam Page

The fact that Dark Order members were referred to both their ring names and their corresponding numbers was very confusing.

This was a match about two teams—FTR and Hangman/Omega—telling an important story while six others tried their best to keep up.

God I hope the Dax Harwood injury is being done to set up an FTR heel turn.

Say what you will about Brodie Lee’s temperament, he was tremendous as a Head Coach in this match.

Present-day Tony Schiavone reacted to a moonsault by Hangman Adam Page with all the enthusiasm of ‘90s Tony Schiavone.

Best Friends def. Proud and Powerful

The fact that Proud and Powerful have not been ranked in the Top 5 since February and it’s not a mistake tells you everything you need to know about how loaded this division is.

Taz used this match to emphasize the fact that not every pinfall needs a leg hook, but it also offered very specific insight as to why opponents hook the leg to force more energy out of a kickout.

Before the match, I was certain the announcers were talking up Best Friends’ ranking over that of Proud and Powerful in order to set Best Friends up to lose, but they were proven to be the better team, which makes AEW’s rankings look more legit.

Poor Sue, Trent’s mom, had her van destroyed by Proud and Powerful as part of this budding feud.

MJF Addresses Campaign Staff

MJF is perfect in this gimmick. And he’s really doubling down on making the sole woman on his staff smile. He’ll be the heel in a Buzzfeed article in no time.

It’s hard to treat MJF as a heel given how diverse his staff is.

Sammy Guevara Destroys Matt Hardy

In AEW, “Jeff Hardy” is pronounced “My Brother.”

The more Matt Hardy pushes to work with Sammy Guevara, who wants nothing to do with Matt, the more Hardy will feel like a heel.

Everything Taz said about Matt Hardy (needing to cool his jets in his courting of Sammy Guevara) during this segment was correct.

Matt Cardona and Cody def. Alex Reynolds and John Silver

If the creative for Matt Cardona has anything to do with turning on Cody, he should ask Shawn Spears how that might work out for him.

Matt Cardona was very impressive from the moment this match came back from commercial to the finish.

Chris Jericho and Orange Cassidy—Super Wednesday Debate Featuring Eric Bischoff

With Taz, Vickie Guerrero, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Jake “The Snake” and Tully Blanchard all in AEW, you can’t convince me AEW won’t let Eric Bischoff hang around as well.

Chris Jericho had to go all the way back o 2008 to get his suit, while Orange Cassidy just had to reach

I don’t think we’ll ever even hear the words “global warming” used on WWE television, and on this show there was an entire monologue about it from Orange Cassidy.

Orange Cassidy saying he cares about a wrestling match was so insane to see.

Big Swole def. Reba

From calling herself a Role Model to forcing her friends to wrestle on her behalf, Britt Baker is acting more like Bayley every week.

Based on her injury timeline, Britt Baker rising out of her wheelchair to attack Big Swole feels like it’s only a matter of time from happening.

Jon Moxley def. Darby Allin—AEW World Heavyweight Championship

The fact that this match started with Darby Allin bleeding from the mouth tells you Jon Moxley is going to make good on this match’s foreshadowed promise in his promo about beating the hell out of Darby Allin.

Taz was at his heel best throughout this match and it was so entertaining.

MJF suggested he’d love to face the “120-lb. emo kid” for the AEW Championship during his promo earlier in the night, so his outside interference trying to screw Jon Moxley was genius.
