Airtel unveils ‘unlimited’ broadband plan – Times of India

NEW DELHI: As the cash-rich Reliance Jio takes steps to spread its business in the lucrative home broadband category, the country’s oldest private telco Airtel on Sunday announced an aggressive fightback, offering unlimited high-speed data up to 3,500 GB per month, free calls, and zero-cost Android TV box, at plans beginning from Rs 499.
Airtel, which was overtaken by Jio in the mobile business after the latter launched its services at disruptive prices in September 2016, now wants to maintain its hold in the broadband business — where its average revenue per user (ARPU) stands at Rs 800 against about Rs 150 in its mobile business.
According to data released by Trai, Airtel had around 2.4 million wired broadband customers at May 2020, while Jio had just under 1 million. At 8 million users, state-owned BSNL leads the category, and other bigger players include Atria Convergence (1.6 million) and Hathway (1 million).
