All The New Netflix Comedy Specials, Movies And Series Coming In May 2020

The vast majority of the country has been sheltering at home due to coronavirus for the better part of seven weeks now (Who’s counting? We are.) and by now you might have already gone through all of your go-to comedy streaming options. Maybe more than once. But don’t fret. It’s a new month and that means that Netflix
NFLX
will drop some new funny content for us, starting on Friday. Let’s take a look at the best new comedy specials, movies, and series coming to a living room very, very, very close to you.

May 5: Jerry Seinfeld: 23 Hours to Kill (Stand-Up Special)

For the first time since 2017’s Jerry Before Seinfeld, The king of observational comedy returns to Netflix for a more traditional special, 23 Hours to Kill. This is surprisingly only the comic’s fourth special, and this time he’s donning a suit and tie and holding court in a big-time theater. The trailer shows him doing what he’s always done: looking at the smallest moments in life and talking about them in a relatable way. Yep, we’ll watch it.

May 12: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend (Interactive special)

The show itself might have officially wrapped last year, but everyone is back for this one-time Netflix interactive special, Kimmy vs. The Reverend, in which our intrepid hero tries to track Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne (John Hamm) who held Kimmy hostage in a bunker for 15 years. “Interactive special” seems to mean that the audience will get to make choices for Kimmy during the special a la Choose Your Own Adventure—it’s the first interactive comedy special of its kind for Netflix.

May 13: The Wrong Missy (Original Netflix Film)

May 19: Patton Oswalt: I love Everything (Stand-Up Comedy Special

May 26: The Lovebirds (Comedy Movie)

May 26: Hannah Gadsby: Douglas (Stand-Up Comedy Trailer)

If you’re looking for some old classics, a good number of those are dropping on Netflix in May as well. Jim Carey’s breakout classic Ace Ventura: Pet Detective leads the way, along with Back to the Future 1 & 2 (Is this a comedy? At least sort of.) There are also a few choices in the romantic comedy genre, including I love You, Stupid, What a Girl Wants, and Fun With Dick and Jane.

Uncut Gems is certainly not a comedy, mostly, but it stars Adam Sandler and is really, really wonderful. Maybe check it out if you fill up on laughs.
