Amazon Prime’s Top 54 Best Shows To Watch In Lockdown, According To Rotten Tomatoes

I am working my way through all my various streaming services for content to watch as this lockdown continues for the indefinite future. I’ve now written lists about Hulu and Netflix shows, so I figured it was time to turn to Amazon Prime, the third major player in the streaming space. You may have Amazon Prime just for free shipping, but since this is a megacorp we’re talking about, the company has synergy where Prime also gets you access to a ton of free shows and movies.

I’m focusing on the show today, as once again Rotten Tomatoes has helpfully sorted Amazon’s top 54 Prime shows by how well they’re rated by critics. I’m going to post the list below, as before, and chime in with a few of my own picks as we make our way through here. I will admit I have watched less of these than I have with Hulu and Netflix shows, but more of the ones near the bottom of the list.

54. Hunters (63%) – I couldn’t stand this show, I only made it a few episodes in but it feels like a Tarantino movie gone horribly wrong and as much as I love Logan Lerman, I cannot recommend it at all.

53. The Last Post (64%)

52. The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show (67%)

51. Mad Dogs (67%)

50. Hanna (67%)

49. Lore (68%)

 48. The Grand Tour (69%)

47. Jean-Claude Van Johnson (69%)

46. Too Old to Die Young (69%)

45. Z: The Beginning of Everything (69%)

44. Ilana Glazer: The Planet Is Burning (71%)

43. Fearless (71%)

42. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan (71%) – I have watched both seasons of this show, which I found to be perfectly adequate, and yet I am having trouble remembering a single concrete detail about the plot, which reminds me that this show is ultimately somewhat forgettable, and there are better spy programs out there.

41. The ABC Murders (72%)

40. Electric Dreams (72%)

39. Good Girls Revolts (73%)

38. Modern Love (75%)

37. Informer (79%)

36. Alpha House (79%)

35. Picnic at Hanging Rock (79%)

34. Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer (80%)

33. The Pale Horse (81%)

32. Tales from the Loop (82%)

31. Lorena (82%)

30. Goliath (82%)

29. ZeroZeroZero (83%) – This was the last Amazon Prime show I watched and I was genuinely impressed by its scope and production value, along with some stellar performances and a haunting soundtrack. An international drug deal gone wrong makes for an exciting short series.

28. Fortitude (84%)

27. The Boys (84%) – If it were up to me, The Boys would be way higher. Based on a graphic novel (and I do mean graphic), this explores the darkly funny concept if superheroes were mostly evil, power-hungry and manipulated by corporations. Antony Starr’s Homelander is one of the best villains across all of TV>

26. Good Omens (84%)

25. The Man in the High Castle (84%) – One of Amazon’s first few Prime exclusive shows, we have done alt history WWII before, but not like this. I have missed the last season, but from what I’ve seen of it so far, I can definitely recommend it.

24. Betas (85%)

23. Comrade Detective (85%)

22. The New Yorker Presents (86%)

21. Doctor Thorne (87%)

20. Britannia (87%)

19. I Love Dick (87%)

18. Vanity Fair (89%)

17. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (89%) – A little surprised that Amazon’s Emmy-winner is not higher up here. If you liked Glimore Girls, this is made by the same showrunner and features the same snappy writing, plus an all-time great performance from Rachel Brosnahan each and every season as an up and coming female comedian.

16. Transparent (90%)

15. Patriot (91%) – If there is one “underrated” show on Amazon Prime, it is probably Patriot, which is constantly recommended in TV circles yet never achieved a level of importance or fame that it probably deserved.

14. Red Oaks (93%)

13. The Expanse (93%) – Easily the best science fiction show on TV, and one of the best of all time, The Expanse was cancelled by Syfy for being too expensive, only to be personally saved by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos because he was just that much of a fan. It gets better and better each passing season and I cannot recommend it highly enough, and the same goes for the books it’s based on.

12. Ordeal by Innocence (94%)

11. Forever (94%)

10. Mozart in the Jungle (94%)

9. The Tick (95%)

8. Sneaky Pete (96%)

7. One Mississippi (96%)

6. Bosch (97%)

5. A Very English Scandal (97%)

4. Homecoming (98%) – A limited series that has Julia Roberts to TV, I’m not sure if I would rank it quite this high, but it’s definitely worth a watch and features short episodes for a drama, unusual in the genre.

3. Catastrophe (98%)

2. Undone (100%)

1. Fleabag (100%) – Amazon’s Best Comedy winner deserves every accolade it gets, as does it star, Phoebe Waller-Bridge. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve rewatched its two seasons, and it genuinely is one of the best comedies on air in recent memory.
