Delhi Police begins probe
In his complaint to the Delhi Police, Kanta Prasad mentioned that Gaurav Wasan has shared his and his family members’ bank account details and phone numbers and collected huge amounts of donation through different modes of payments and didn’t provide any information to him. Atul Thakur, DCP South, said, “We’ve received a complaint and the matter is being enquired upon.”
I can show proof of my bank statement: Food blogger Gaurav Wasan
Gaurav tells us, “I have proof of the money that I have received and I gave him Rs 3, 78,000 of the donation money which I have received for him.”
The blogger tells us that many people have been directly donating money to Kanta Prasad’s account. “On October 8, when I went with Baba to deposit Rs 75,000 into his bank account, I asked the Central Bank officials to update the amount on the passbook. But bank officials said that it was not possible right away as there were numerous transactions on that account. I asked them if they can approximately tell us the amount received in the account, and they told me it was around Rs 23-25 lakh.”
He adds, “After that, I made that video asking people to not donate more and help someone else. Even he (Kanta Prasad) said in the video that he doesn’t need more money. If the matter is being enquired, Central Bank officials can be contacted and they can confirm the amount.”
Gaurav says the whole episode is “demotivating and demoralising”. “Why would you help anyone if this is what happens? Since morning, I’ve received over 200 messages with people saying that ‘We support you’.”
Gaurav says that he met Kanta Prasad last week and there are a few food bloggers who are behind this. He says, “I won’t take any names, but there are a few food bloggers who had made these false claims and Baba believed them. Rather than clarifying with me, he went ahead and complained to the police. I have proof of my bank statement.”
No case has been registered but investigations are under way.
