Baeksang Arts Awards Announces Nominees And Plans To Proceed Without An Audience

The Baeksang Arts Awards, honoring outstanding achievements in the South Korean entertainment industry, will hold its 2020 ceremony on June 5 at Kintex in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province. The ceremony was originally planned for May 1, but delayed due to concerns about COVID-19. The rescheduled ceremony will proceed without an audience and will instead be streamed live on the Korean cable channel JTBC.

Known as the “Oscars of Korea,” The Baeksang Awards are held annually by IS PLUS Corp., publisher of Ilgan Sports. The 56th awards ceremony honors the cast and crew of TV shows, films and theater productions released between April 1, 2019 and April 30, 2020.

After winning a multitude of international awards—including four Academy Awards— Bong Joon-ho’s film Parasite was also nominated for several Baeksang Awards, including Best Picture.

This year’s nominees are:  

Best TV Drama: When The Camellia Blooms, Stove League, Kingdom 2, Hyena, and Crash Landing On You

Best Actress: Kim Hye-soo for Hyena, Gong Hyo-jin for When The Camellia Blooms, Kim Hee-ae for World of the Married, IU for Hotel Del Luna and Son Ye-jin for Crash Landing On You.

Best Actor: Hyun Bin for Crash Landing On You, Ju Ji-hoon for Hyena, Park Seo-joon for Itaewon Class, Kang Ha-neul for When The Camellia Blooms, and Nam Goong-min for Stove League

Best Supporting Actress: Kwon Nara for Itaewon Class, Kim Sun-young for Crash Landing On You, Seo Ji-hye for Crash Landing On You, Son Dam-bi for When The Camellia Blooms, and Yum Hye-ron for When The Camellia Blooms

Best Supporting Actor: Kim Young-min for The World of the Married, Yang Kyoung-won for Crash Landing On You, Oh Jung-se for When The Camellia Blooms, Yoo Jae Myung for Itaewon Class, Jun Suk-ho for Hyena

Best New Actress: Kim Da-mi for Itaewon Class, Jeon Mi-do for Hospital Playlist, Jeon Yeo-bin for Be Melodramatic, Jung Ji-so for The Cursed, and Han Seo-hee for The World of the Married

Best New Actor: Kim Kang-hoon for When The Camellia Blooms, Ahn Bo-hyun for Itaewon Class, Ahn Yeo-seop for Dr. Romantic 2, Ong Seung-woo for At Eighteen, and Lee Jae-wook for Extraordinary You.

Best Film: Parasite, The Man Standing Next Door, House of Hummingbird, Exit, Kim Ji-Young: Born 1982

Best Actor: Song Kang-ho for Parasite, Lee Byung Hun for The Man Standing Next Door, Lee Je-hoon for Time To Hunt, Jo Jung-seok for Exit, and Han Suk-kyu for Forbidden Dream.

Best Actress: Kim So-jin for Another Child, Kim Hee-ae for Moonlit Winter, Jeon Do-yeon for Happy Birthday, Jung Yu-mi for Kim Ji-Young: Born 1982, and Jo Yeo-jeong for Parasite

Best Supporting Actor: Kim Young-min for Lucky Chan Sil, Park Myoung-hoon for Parasite, Woo Hyun-joo for The Divine Move, Lee Kwang-soo for Inseparable Bros, and Lee He-joon for The Man Standing Next Door

Best Supporting Actress: Kim Guk-hee for Tune In For Love, Kim Mi-kyung for Kim Ji-young: Born 1982, Kim Sae-byuk for House of Hummingbird, Park So-dam for Parasite and Lee Jung-eun for Parasite.

Best New Actress: Kang Mal Geum for Lucky Chan Sil, Kim So-hye for Moonlit Winter, Kim Hye-jun for Another Child, Park Ji-hoo for House of Hummingbird, Jang Hye-Jin for Parasite

Best New Actor: Park Hyung-sik for Juror 8, Jung Hae-in for Tune In For Love, Park Myoung-hoon for Parasite, Park Hae-soo for Time To Hunt, and Ahn Ji-ho for A Boy And Sungreen.

These are just some of the categories that will receive awards at the ceremony.
