Blackpink And Lady Gaga Tie One Of BTS’s Biggest Feats On The Dance Chart

Earlier this year, Blackpink scored a rare and important victory on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, the ranking of the most-consumed and most successful tracks that fit under that label in the U.S. every week. The girl group appeared on the tally for the first time alongside Lady Gaga on the her tune “Sour Candy,” which served as a promotional track pushed from her new album Chromatica. 

Months later, that song is not only present on the chart, it’s still performing extremely well, and with another turn on the tally, it has inched forward once again on the all-time ranking of the longest-charting tunes by South Korean musicians in that rankings history.

On the current edition of the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, “Sour Candy” actually improves, lifting from No. 19 to No. 16. That’s an impressive height for a cut that’s already spent so much time on the list, and it means that Blackpink tie with several other stars from their home country in a notable way.

“Sour Candy” has now lived on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart for 20 consecutive frames, which is a lengthy stay most musicians would be jealous of, and it’s one that very few South Korean acts have managed. With 20 turns on the tally to their credit, Blackpink’s collaboration with the pop superstar ties with three other cuts by or featuring acts from the Asian nation.

Two hits from pioneering artist Psy—“Daddy” with CL and his own “Gentleman”—both lived on the ranking for 20 weeks, as did Steve Aoki’s “Waste It On Me,” which features BTS. “Sour Candy” is now on the same level as those smashes when looking at length of time spent on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, though it won’t be for long.

When Billboard refreshes that genre-specific ranking in a short while, “Sour Candy” is bound to find space once again, earning its twenty-first stay on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. In doing so, the tune will tie Psy’s “Hangover,” a collaboration with rapper Snoop Dogg, as the longest-charting effort in the history of that ranking among all releases by South Korean artists.

In time, “Sour Candy” may very well beat the all-time record, as it is taking its time in falling down the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, and it doesn’t look like it will disappear anytime soon.
