Blackpink Enjoys One Of The Most Impressive Weeks Of All Time Among Korean Acts On The Canadian Hot 100

Blackpink is all over the Billboard charts this week, including in Canada, where they land a hit album and occupy quite a bit of space on the all-encompassing Hot 100, the ranking of the most-consumed tracks in the northern nation every frame.

As their debut full-length The Album lands at No. 5 on the Canadian Albums list (a new high point for them and all girl groups from South Korea), five songs from the project appear on the Canadian Hot 100. That’s not just a solid showing for a vocal band, it’s one of the most impressive of all time when looking at all musicians from their home country of South Korea.

One cut from The Album debuts inside the top 40, earning the girl group yet another placement inside the region which typically defines when a song has become a proper hit. “Lovesick Girls,” the latest focus track from the collection, opens at No. 29 this time around.

Up from No. 56 to No. 45 is “Ice Cream,” the quartet’s collaboration with Selena Gomez.

Two additional tunes that are featured on The Album, but which weren’t made available before the set arrived in full, appear for the first time. “Bet You Wanna” with Cardi B and “Pretty Savage” start off at Nos. 58 and 87, respectively.

Right behind the latter title, “How You Like That” returns to the Canadian Hot 100 at No. 88. That tune was the first song featured on The Album to be released, and it peaked at No. 11 (as “Ice Cream” would do several weeks later).

While planting five songs on the Canadian Hot 100 simultaneously may be one of the most impressive showings of all time when looking solely at South Korean acts, it isn’t quite a record. When BTS launched their album Map of the Soul: Persona back in the spring of 2019, they placed at least half a dozen tunes onto the tally, and that still stands as the best showing among artists from the Asian territory.
