Blackpink, Nicki Minaj, BTS, Selena Gomez And Juice WRLD: 5 Important Moves On This Week’s Hot 100

There were almost two hits inside the top 10 on this week’s Hot 100 by South Korean superstars, as BTS remains at No. 1 while Blackpink debut their latest smash just a few spots below the highest tier, scoring a huge win in the process. Further down the ranking, Calvin Harris returns with his first placement in years, while some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B all collect more hits as well.

Here’s a look at five of the most important moves on this week’s Hot 100 singles chart.

No. 1 – BTS – “Dynamite” 

After BTS debuted in first place last week, many expected Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion to reclaim the Hot 100’s throne with their smash “WAP,” which ruled for two turns before “Dynamite” launched at the top. Thanks in particular to a massive second-week sales count, BTS’s first leader on the all-genre tally holds at No. 1 for another period, proving itself to be a surprisingly sturdy win.

No. 13 – Blackpink – “Ice Cream” with Selena Gomez

After landing their first two top 40 hits on the Hot 100 just a few months ago with “Sour Candy,” their collaboration with Lady Gaga and then their own “How You Like That” (which both peaked at No. 33), Blackpink rise higher than ever before with “Ice Cream,” their latest release. The tune, which features Selena Gomez, opens at No. 13, instantly becoming the highest-charting track by a South Korean girl group in U.S. history.

No. 38 – Calvin Harris x The Weeknd – “Over Now”

Two of the biggest hitmakers of the past decade, Calvin Harris and The Weeknd have no issue sending new tracks toward the top of the Hot 100, and when they work together, their fan bases are powerful enough to make anything a hit. “Over Now,” a collaboration between the two titans, opens at No. 38, giving Harris his fifteenth top 40 and The Weeknd his thirty-first.

No. 79 – Internet Money – “Blastoff (ft. Trippie Redd and Juice WRLD)”

Production group Internet Money launch their album B4 the Storm inside the top 10 on the Billboard 200 this week, and as that set becomes a notable success for the upstart act, they earn their third-ever placement on the Hot 100. “Blastoff,” which credits both Trippie Redd and Juice WRLD, starts at No. 79, giving Redd his twentieth appearance on the list and WRLD his milestone fiftieth.

No. 83 – Ty Dolla $ign – “Expensive (ft. Nicki Minaj)”

Just a few spots below that hip-hop cut comes another, as Ty Dolla $ign and Nicki Minaj debut their new tune “Expensive” at No. 83 on the Hot 100. The single appears to serve as the latest taste of the former act’s forthcoming album Dream House, which could arrive as early as this fall. The track is the twenty-third to place on the Hot 100 for $ign, while Minaj earns her one-hundred-and-twelfth.

With one more Hot 100 hit to her credit, Minaj breaks out of a tie with fellow hip-hop royalty Future to become the musician with the fifth-most smashes in the history of the tally, coming in behind only Drake, the cast of the TV show Glee, Lil Wayne and Taylor Swift.
