BTS, Eminem, Halsey And The Weeknd: Early Grammy Predictions For Album Of The Year

Believe it or not, the current eligibility period for the next Grammy Awards is now more than half-through, as it began in September 2019 and runs through this coming summer. While there are sure to be a lot of great music released in the next half a year or so, it’s likely that a number of future nominees are already being consumed.

Here’s a look at very early predictions for Album of the Year.

Likely

Right now, there are three albums that seem like they are all but locks for a handful of the spots in what is still regarded as the biggest honor in music. Childish Gambino’s surprise release 3.15.20, Post Malone’s massive 2019 blockbuster Hollywood’s Bleeding and The Weeknd’s most recent chart-topper After Hours. While two of those titles have only been out for less than a month, they’re already regarded as among the best-reviewed of 2020.

Possible

There are a number of titles that are sure to be strongly considered, and that group is only going to expand as 2020 progresses. While they’re not certainties, new releases by the likes of Brittany Howard (Jaime), BTS (Map of the Soul: 7), Eminem (Music to Be Murdered By), Halsey (Manic), Harry Styles (Fine Line), Lil Uzi Vert (Eternal Atake) and Luke Combs (What You See Is What You Get) all have a great shot at being included, and when the nominees are called at some point in December (probably), it won’t be shocking if a many of those names are heard.

There’s A Shot

Looking at a third tier of much less likely but not out of the question possibilities, the group expands considerably, and it seems like any effort that performed fairly well on almost any Billboard chart or received fair praise could be chosen.

Depending on which direction Grammy voters go, eligible albums by the likes of Dua Lipa (Future Nostalgia), The Highwomen (The Highwomen), Jhené Aiko (Chilombo), Miranda Lambert (Wildcard), Roddy Ricch (Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial), Sturgill Simpson (Sound & Fury), Summer Walker (Over It) and Tame Impala (The Slow Rush) could wind up being nominated for Album of the Year, though it wouldn’t be entirely surprising if only one or two, or perhaps none of the releases I just mentioned, end up as possible winners.
