BTS, Post Malone And Katy Perry: 5 Releases Making Waves On The U.K. Albums Chart

Taylor Swift rules the U.K. albums chart for the third week in a row with Folklore, which has turned out to be one of the most successful releases of the year in quite a few places. The surprise LP is now the second-longest-running No. 1 of the year behind both Lewis Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent and Dua Lipa’s Future Nostlagia, both of which have held in the highest rung for four turns.

Behind Swift, there aren’t a ton of noteworthy debuts, but there are several efforts that rise, fall or hit special milestones this time around.

Here are five titles that make waves on this week’s U.K. albums chart.

No. 21 – Post Malone – Hollywood’s Bleeding

As his latest full-length approaches one year on the U.K. albums chart, all three of Post Malone’s projects find space on the tally, and two of them manage to advance.

This time around, Hollywood’s Bleeding steps up from No. 24 to No. 21, a short climb, but a noticeable one for an effort that’s already been going strong for 49 frames.

Down at No. 58 is Beerbongs & Bentleys, which is a non-mover this week. Finally, in last place comes Stoney, which returns to the chart at No. 100. It’s hard to say how much ground the title gains this week, but the fact that it bounces back onto the ranking at all is impressive.

No. 23 – Fontaines D.C. – A Hero’s Death

Last week, Irish rockers Fontaines D.C. missed out on landing their first No. 1 album in the U.K. with A Hero’s Death, which opened in second place behind Taylor Swift’s Folklore. In its second frame on the tally, the set doesn’t just vacate the runner-up rung, it tumbles outside the top 10 entirely, landing at No. 23. That kind of fall isn’t seen very often, though the outfit isn’t the first to see a successful launch crater instantly.

No. 35 – BTS – Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey

Less than a month ago, BTS’s Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey debuted at No. 56 on the U.K. albums ranking, and one frame later, it was gone. Now, the title returns to the tally thanks to quite a few fans rushing to pick up a copy now that it’s available in physical formats. The release, the group’s second Japanese effort to place on the ranking, hits a new high and reaches the top 40 for the first time by returning at No. 35.

No. 45 – Arctic Monkeys – Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not

The album that introduced Arctic Monkeys to the world, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, is still racking up healthy sales and streams every week, even though it’s been out for well over a decade. This time around, the title hits 300 weeks on the chart, making it one of the better-performing releases of all time in the U.K.

No. 81 – Katy Perry – Teenage Dream

As she gets ready to release her fifth fifth full-length Smile at the end of the month, Katy Perry continues to chart in the U.K. with Teenage Dream, her biggest project yet. The set was a phenomenon for years, spinning off hit after hit, and fans are still listening in large enough numbers to this day that the set continues to own real estate on the ranking. This frame, it celebrates three full years on the tally, or exactly 156 weeks.
