BTS’s ‘Dynamite’ Has Now Sold Over 2 Million Units In The U.S.

BTS’s “Dynamite” is the mega-selling pop smash that just won’t quit. After spending nine consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Digital Song Sales chart, the Korean pop septet’s disco-pop anthem has now sold over 2 million units in the United States, according to Chart Data.

The bulk of those 2 million units comes from pure sales, as “Dynamite” has sold a staggering number of downloads every week since its release. The track exploded out of the gate with 265,000 digital downloads in its first week, by far the biggest sales week of 2020 and the biggest pure sales week since Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” debuted with 353,000 downloads in 2017.

“Dynamite” granted BTS their first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and has spent three non-consecutive weeks there. It has also topped the Digital Song Sales chart every week since its release and has spent multiple weeks atop the new Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts. And that’s to say nothing of the YouTube premiere and 24-hour debut records the “Dynamite” music video shattered.

By crossing the two-million threshold, “Dynamite” is now eligible for a double platinum certification from the RIAA. Upon certification, it will mark BTS’s highest-certified song in the United States. The group previously collected platinum certifications for “Idol,” “Boy with Luv” and “Mic Drop.”

The success of “Dynamite” has been nothing short of a paradigm shift for the way Western listeners regard non-Western artists. After years of sold-out stadium shows, shattered YouTube records and four consecutive No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, BTS crossed the final frontier of global pop superstardom by notching a No. 1 hit on the Hot 100. The boy band summited the singles chart a second time earlier this month with a remix of Jason Derulo and Jawsh 685’s “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat),” further establishing themselves as kingmakers on the Hot 100.

With their highly anticipated new album, BE, arriving next month, BTS’s chart reign is unlikely to stop anytime soon. The new album is sure to do gargantuan numbers, and its individual tracks seem destined for the upper ranks of the Hot 100. BTS could very well complete their hat trick with a third No. 1 hit on the Hot 100, another career best in a year full of them.
