BTS’s New Album Is The Fifth Korean Release To Chart For Double-Digit Weeks In Canada

BTS’s latest album Map of the Soul: 7 continues to slide on charts all around the world, but it’s performance over two months after it first landed on rankings in dozens of territories is still impressive, even if it is falling. Many sets, even ones that debut inside the upper reaches of important lists, don’t last more than a month, and the septet’s most recent chart-topper has done so and thrived. Now, simply by holding on once more, it’s reached a special milestone.

Map of the Soul: 7 backtracks 10 rungs this time around, descending from No. 43 to No. 53, but its placement isn’t what’s worth noting this time around. BTS’s most recent full-length has now been present on Billboard’s Canadian Albums chart for 10 weeks, which is something that very few Korean titles have managed. In fact, the second release in the Map of the Soul series is just the fifth Korean-language project to rack up double-digit frames anywhere on the 100-spot roster.

Unsurprisingly, the other four Korean-language albums that have charted for at least 10 weeks are all by BTS, who have quickly outpaced every other group and solo musician from their country, at least when it comes to charting music in Canada.

Leading the way among all Korean releases when looking at the most weeks spent on the Canadian Albums chart is Love Yourself: Answer, which tapped out after 40 turns somewhere on the list. Two other projects from that series, Love Yourself: Her and Love Yourself: Tear, earned 28 and 15 frames on the ranking during their heydays, respectively.

The first taste of the Map of the Soul trilogy, 2019’s Map of the Soul: Persona, has also earned 15 stays on the Canadian Albums chart. At the moment, it looks like Map of the Soul: 7 will continue to add to its already historic total, and it could soon match the 15 weeks that both Map of the Soul: Persona and Love Yourself: Tear ended up with. There’s also a chance it may best those efforts, becoming one of the top three longest-charting Korean titles of all time in the country…though that accomplishment is still a month away.
