‘Call Of Duty’ Teases Big Changes Coming To ‘Warzone’ In Season 5

Since Warzone launched earlier this year—just in time for the first wave of coronavirus-related shutdowns—not a ton has changed with the free-to-play game’s sprawling map.

Warzone, the free stand-alone battle royale title that exists in tandem with Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, hasn’t been as prone to map changes as its rival Fortnite. Mostly, the game has stuck to new Operators and an ongoing story about the fictional city of Verdansk, where Warzone takes place.

Some mysterious bunkers notwithstanding, we haven’t seen anything yet as drastic as a total map flood or a brand new map.

That may all be about to change. We’ve had a number of leaks, hints, teasers and other clues as to the fate of Warzone in Season 5.

The map could be nuked. We may get a running train a la Apex Legends. And one of the major points of interest may undergo a massive change.

That last one is a reference to Stadium, a giant POI that has remain closed to players since the beginning. You can run around Stadium, looting chests and battling enemies, but you can’t go in.

Thanks to a recent teaser from the Call Of Duty Twitter account, that appears to be changing when Season 4 ends and Season 5 begins:

“If the Stadium had a name, what would it be?,” the tweet reads. “Our doors are open to ideas.

“Drop ’em below.”

It’s the second sentence (which I’ve bolded) that holds the key. “Our doors are open” is definitely purposeful phrasing, a little play on words that makes it quite clear that Stadium is opening its doors next season and players will be able to loot and battle inside.

That’s exciting. One of my favorite POI’s is Prison, largely because it has such a fun interior—both in the lower levels and the big, outdoor courtyard and ramparts. It’s a great spot for loot and a fun place to throw down against enemy players. Stadium should, theoretically, have much the same appeal.
