‘Cobra Kai’ And ‘The Office’ Join The Exclusive ‘300 Club’ On Netflix

Cobra Kai has certainly seen better days. While the cult hit TV show had appeared on the Daily Top 10 list each day this month, it fell completely off of that list today. THe day before, the show came in ninth place on the daily list, which means thus far this month only accrued 19 points. So amongst all shows on Netflix

during the month of October , Cobra Kai ranks in eighth place.

But the show’s ninth place showing yesterday on the Daily Top 10 was significant for a different reason, as it marked a major milestone that only the top-tier shows on Netflix can claim to have achieved.

And it just so happens that The Office achieved that very feat today as well.

I know this because of a system I developed that monitors Top 10 performance for movies and shows on Netflix. Based on where a TV show falls on the Top 10 list each day, that project is awarded points. And those points are tallied as the weeks and months go by in order to show which programs have controlled the Netflix platform over the course of time.

And this week, both Cobra Kai and The Office have joined what’s known as the “300 Club.” That makes them just the sixth and seventh shows this year to amass 300 points from the Top 10 ranking system.

The other five shows to match this feat? The unequivocally five biggest shows on Netflix: Tiger King, Ozark, Outer Banks, Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Umbrella Academy. The reality show Love is Blind came close to joining the exclusive group earlier this year, but couldn’t quite muster the one last point it needed. But past those eight programs, no other TV has come close to reaching that 300-point plateau that Cobra Kai and The Office just hit.

This news isn’t incredibly surprising given Cobra Kai’s performance over the past month-and-a-half. The cult hit premiered on Netflix back on August 28, when the show began a nine-day stint in the #1 position on the Daily Top 10—a streak only eight other shows have matched. But the more impressive streak has been the show’s 42-day run on the Daily Top 10 list since that Netflix premiere. That’s a milestone that only six other shows have managed.

And during that run, Cobra Kai achieved some notable accolades. On the Summer Top 10 rankings, Cobra Kai finished in second place behind The Umbrella Academy with 227 points. And on the Autumn Top 10 list, the show currently sits in sixth place with 70 points.

The former YouTube series also finished in first place during the month of September when it beat out shows like Away, CoComelon and Ratched with its 241-point total.

During its first 30 days on Netflix, Cobra Kai amassed 261 points. So far in 2020, that has been the sixth-best showing, beating out juggernauts like Space Force, Dead to Me and 13 Reasons Why.

It was a much different story with The Office, which has slowly built up its points over the course of 2020. By far, The Office has made more appearances on the Daily Top 10 list than any other show. The beloved NBC sitcom has made a showing 135 different times so far this year, while the second-place Avatar: The Last Airbender has only made 61. Those 135 appearances have slowly built up The Office’s Top 10 score to the 300-point realm.
