Damwon Gaming Destroy G2 At Worlds To Advance To Final

Damwon Gaming defeated G2 Esports 3-1 in the semi-final of the League of Legends World Championship earlier today. The convincing victory from the Korean team gives them a place in next weekend’s grand final, marking the first time a Korean team has reached the final of Worlds since 2017.

After a lot of hype going into the match between G2 and Damwon, the actual result was quite underwhelming. Damwon looked to be in control of the matchup for the majority of the match, only really slipping up in game two where G2 finally looked like they could compete in the match.

Game one was a dominant performance from Damwon, who got off to a flying start and never really let up. G2 could only muster up six kills in the game, while Damwon racked up 22 and made the win look incredibly easy.

Game two was a similar story but in the other direction, with G2 having a significant lead from the mid-game that they never let up. Damwon did keep it even for a while, but eventually, G2 pushed to the win to even up the series.

While game two offered some hope for G2 fans, it seemed that Damwon learned a lot from the loss, as they came out for game three looking unphased by the previous game. G2 again struggled to get anything going, and every early attempt they made to be aggressive was turned around by Damwon, punishing the slightest of mistakes. Again it was an easy win for the Koreans.

Anyone hoping to see a full best of five match had their dreams crushed within the opening minutes of game four. Damwon straight up outplayed G2 in the early game, securing a massive gold lead very early on and picking off G2 players easily. With an underwhelming draft from G2, which needed a hyper late-game scenario to have a real chance after the poor start, this game was effectively over by the 15-minute mark, and it didn’t take long for Damwon to push on through and take the overall win.

With the 3-1 win over G2, Damwon gaming has secured a place in the grand final of the League of Legends World Championship, becoming the first Korean team to make the final since 2017. Damwon will face off against either Top Esports or Suning who play each other in the second semi-final tomorrow. The grand final is set to take place on October 31 and will be free to watch on Twitch and YouTube.
