Dr Reddy’s launches Remdesivir to treat Covid-19 in India | India News – Times of India
HYDERABAD: Pharma major Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd on Wednesday announced the rollout of potential Covid-19 treatment generic drug Remdesivir, under the Redyx brand name in India. Dr Reddy’s has announced the launch of Redyx at Rs 5400 per 100 mg vial.
The launch follows the non-exclusive agreement that Dr Reddy’s entered into with Remdesivir’s innovator company Gilead Sciences Inc of US in June this year to register, manufacture and sell Remdesivir in 127 countries including India.
Remdesivir, which was originally developed for the treatment of Ebola by Gilead, has been approved by India’s drug regulator Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for restricted emergency use for the treatment of Covid-19 patients hospitalized with severe symptoms.
M V Ramana, CEO, Branded Markets (India and Emerging Markets), Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, said “We will continue our efforts to develop products that address significant unmet needs of patients. The launch of Redyx reaffirms our commitment to bringing in critical medicine for patients suffering from Covid-19 in India.”
Apart from Remdesivir, Dr Reddy’s has already launched last month another Covid-19 treatment anti-viral drug Favipiravir 200 mg under its innovator brand Avigan in the Indian market following a pact with its innovator Fujifilm of Japan. Favipiravir has been approved by DCGI for the treatment of Covid-19 patients suffering from mild to moderate symptoms.
