Drake, Kehlani And Nav Are All Battling For The No. 1 Album Next Week

This past week, two of the biggest musicians in the music industry fought tooth and nail to reach the No. 1 spot, and the name many thought would end up on top once the tracking period closed was not the one that ended up ruling. Kenny Chesney’s Here and Now was declared the winner over Drake’s surprise release Dark Lane Demo Tapes, which was forced to settle for second place on the all-genre list of the most-consumed full-lengths in the U.S.

Now, the rapper is once again competing with others for the highest rung on the Billboard 200, and it looks like he may not be able to push his latest collection to the peak position for a second turn.

According to projections published by HitsDailyDouble, it currently looks like Kehlani and Nav are neck-and-neck in the race for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200. The R&B and hip-hop musicians may both be able to shift upwards of 80,000 copies of their newly-released projects, and at the moment it’s impossible to say which artist will win the week.

Nav’s album Good Intentions will benefit from a newly-released deluxe edition, which features a 32-song-long tracklist. The new version dropped just days after the initial set. It has also produced a top 20 hit on the Hot 100 in the form of “Turks,” which features Gunna and Travis Scott.

Kehlani is relying on her massive fan base to help her climb higher than ever before on the Billboard 200, possibly even to No. 1, even though her release It Was Good Until It Wasn’t has landed a single smash.

Drake isn’t far behind those two, and it’s possible that by the the time this frame concludes, he’ll have eclipsed them…though his chances aren’t spectacular. The rapper’s Dark Lane Demo Tapes is tracking for another 70,000 to 75,000 equivalent copies in its second turn on the tally, which is just a few thousand units behind the frontrunners. Should he do something to spur sales and streams, or should his fans see these figures and band together to raise that count just a bit more, the superstar’s latest project could finally climb to the peak position.

Should Drake step up one rung, he will land his tenth No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Nav is attempting to hit the top of the most important albums chart for the second time (and second time in a row), while Kehlani could score her first leader.

A winner should be named this coming Sunday evening (May 17).
