FC Barcelona’s Contract Offer To Keep Marc-Andre Ter Stegen Revealed

This past weekend, it was reported in Catalonia that FC Barcelona would take advantage of the La Liga posteponment and get their house in order.

Transferwise, the most prominent stories have been those detailing progress made on the captures of Neymar and Lautaro Martinez.

ESPN‘s Julien Laurens claims that the Brazilian is now available for a fee of $167mn, after PSG’s sporting director Leonardo gave up on his compatriot and decided to focus on keeping Kylian Mbappe from heading to Real Madrid.

Up front, as a successor to Luis Suarez, Martinez can be acquired for $124mn in the first 15 days of July, and apparently has eyes only for a club and country union with international teammate Lionel Messi at the Camp Nou.

Speaking of whom, and cutting to the chase, the contract renewals of the captain and goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen are matters that sit at the top of the agenda above everything else.

As all club activities, at least in terms of training and matches, are suspended for the foreseeable future, the deals of these men’s first team stars can have the full attention they deserve. However at this moment in time, the German seems far closer than the Argentine to devoting his future to the Catalan giants.

Messi is dragging his heels, refusing to entertain the ‘indefinite’ proposal spoke of by president Josep Bartomeu, and, instead, take things year-by-year while still able to walk on a free this summer. On the other hand, though, Ter Stegen can prolong his current arrangement for a further two years with something more concrete in front of him.

Both he and Messi’s deals scheduled for expiration in 2022, despite the latter’s unique ability to cut ties three months from now, SPORT attest that the shot-stopper can sign until June 2024.

In claims seconded by Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, with Juventus among the parties keeping an eye on the developments alongside Chelsea, a yearly salary of €6.3mn ($7mn) has also been offered with talks currently ongoing.

As vital to the cause as the Ballon d’Or holder, not just through his world-class saves but also Quique Setien’s wish to play the ball out from the back, FC Barcelona will be hard-pressed to find a like-for-like replacement if their 2015 Champions League winner does not find the particulars agreeable.
