FC Inter Coach Antonio Conte ‘About To Quit The Club’ After Losing Europa League Final To FC Sevilla

Spanish side FC Sevilla have been crowned UEFA Europa League champions on Friday after beating FC Inter with a thrilling final result of 3-2.

Dutch striker Luuk de Jong was the two-goal hero as the Spaniards won the tournament for a record sixth time in an all-time classic of this European competition.

Conte’s men falter at the final hurdle after Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku gave the Italian side the lead from the penalty spot and Uruguayan defender Diego Godin equalized the Andalusians score with a header during the first half.

A late goal by Brazilian defender Diego Carlos settled the final with a bicycle kick, allowing Julen Lopetegui’s men to lift the trophy at Stadion Köln in Cologne, Germany.

It was a well-deserved win for the club playing in La Liga, the Spanish top-flight soccer competition.

Their 2019/2020 season has been phenomenal: before the final, FC Sevilla were 20 games unbeaten in all competitions, winning eight of their last nine, and hitting form at just the right time.

Additionally, their experience in this competition gives them an extra edge; they know how to get the job done as they are the team that has won the most finals in the same European competition with 100% victories (six out of six).

Antonio Conte’s side, on the other hand, offered nothing on the creative front and did not look as solid defensively as they proved to be ahead of the game, with only one goal conceded in the last 7 fixtures of the competition.

As a matter of fact, this was the first time ever Inter have conceded at least 3 goals in a European Competition for club final.

The nerazzurri missed the chance of bringing a European trophy back to Italy for the first time in 10 years, as no Italian club has won this competition since it was called the UEFA Cup, with Parma in 1999.

The former Chelsea coach – who as a player won the UEFA Cup and UEFA Champions League with Juventus – did not hide his disappointment at the end of the game.

“It was a tough, balanced game where in the second half one incident could change it. We had the opportunity, but instead, there was that unlucky deflection off Romelu, so inevitably it became very difficult there” he said to Sky Sport Italy.

Then Conte went on, speaking as this was his last game at FC Inter.

“Now we have to get back to Milan, will take two or three days off, then with cool heads will meet. It’s only right that we analyze the entire season, look at everything in a very calm way, and try to plan the future of Inter, whether it’s with or without me”

“It has been difficult and we’ll figure things out. It has been wonderful for me to be the coach of Inter, I thank the owners who allowed me to go through this great experience.

“There is no rancour, from me or the club. There are people I already worked with, so that’s not the issue. It’s about points of view, some situations that I faced this year and didn’t like, with all due respect for everyone. I have a family and I have to understand if football is the priority or my family”.

As Sky Italy reported already few weeks ago, Antonio Conte will likely leave FC Inter in the next days.

He will meet with the club next week to discuss his future, but the shadow of former Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri is haunting him.

With Allegri still out of work and available for hire, he is considered the strong favorite to replace the 50-year-old.

Additionally, Allegri already worked at Juventus alongside Beppe Marotta, current FC Inter general manager.

Allegri would become just the third coach in history to have coached Juve, Milan and the Nerazzurri after Giovanni Trapattoni and Alberto Zaccheroni.
