Following Chadwick Boseman’s Death, The Music From ‘Black Panther’ Returns To The Charts

Two weeks ago, the world lost a shining star, as Chadwick Boseman passed away due to complications related to colon cancer, a disease he had never discussed publicly. As millions mourn the talent, many rushed to buy and stream the music from Black Panther, arguably his most iconic role and his biggest film.

Below is a look at how the music from that superhero movie performs this frame as the world searches for any way to remember the luminary that was Boseman.

Billboard 200

Two and a half years ago, the Black Panther soundtrack wasted no time going right to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the all-genre ranking of the most-consumed albums in the U.S. It ended up spending quite a few weeks on the tally before falling off, but now it’s back for another spin following the passing of the star of the film it was created for. This frame, the set returns at No. 129.

Soundtracks

While the Black Panther album hasn’t been present on the Billboard 200 for some time, it usually finds space on the Soundtracks ranking, as there isn’t nearly as much competition on that specific list. This frame, the set rises from No. 14 to No. 5, returning to the top five yet again.

World Digital Song Sales

Over on the World Digital Song Sales chart, one track featured in Black Panther reappears, though it’s not on the soundtrack fronted by Lamar. Instead, a tune from the original score titled “Wakanda” returns to the list at No. 23 after peaking at No. 5 years ago. The tune is officially credited to Ludwig Göransson, who won an Academy Award for the music he crafted for the film.

R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales

Just one cut from the Black Panther album appears on this week’s R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales ranking, and it narrowly makes it back on to the tally. “All the Stars,” perhaps the biggest single from the project, returns at No. 22, bringing both Lamar and SZA to the roster once again.

R&B Digital Song Sales

Two tracks from the Black Panther soundtrack album find their way back to the R&B Digital Song Sales ranking, and both climb fairly high on the purchase-only list. Up first among the pair is “All the Stars,” which is led by Lamar and which features SZA. That cut lands at No. 9, and it is closely followed by Lamar and The Weeknd’s “Pray for Me,” which comes in at No. 12 this time around.
