Gabriel Magalhães, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Paul Pogba Lead Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 2 Sleepers

If you took our recommendations for the season-long version of fantasy Premier League
PINC
sleepers, you would’ve gotten Gameweek 1 goals from Wolves’ Romain Saiss and Newcastle’s Callum Wilson and a clean sheet from Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney.

For Gameweek 2, we’ll start a weekly series of sleepers just for this single particular match week as we rock the 4-4-2 for the weekend.

Goalkeeper

Jordan Pickford, Everton, £5.0M

From here on out, any ‘keeper below £5.5M will qualify as a sleeper because you can transfer them in and play them at a bargain price. Being England’s main goalkeeper means nobody’s sleeping on Pickford, especially after the Toffees’ impressive clean sheet on Sunday against Spurs. Pickford did have a low save rate last season, but a Saturday tilt against West Bromwich Albion means that a lot of shrewd FPL managers may be stacking Everton’s backline this week if you have the flexibility to do so.

Defenders

Gabriel Magalhães, £5.0M; Rob Holding, £4.5M, Arsenal

Gabriel, the Gunners’ new £27M Brazilian signing, scored in his debut and put the Prem on notice against Fulham. But he’s still affordably priced where he’s at now going into Arsenal’s fixture against London rival West Ham, who were shut out at home in the opener against Newcastle.

Similarly, if Holding plays, he’s worth slotting in at his price so he can reap the benefits of what seems like a favorable Arsenal matchup. Then again, Arsenal sure knows how to mess up a seemingly good situation.

Seamus Coleman, Michael Keane, £5.0M, Everton

Like Pickford, Coleman and Keane got the extra points from their clean sheet at home against a home fixture against WBA. As a bonus, Everton’s following two matches at Crystal Palace and home against Brighton & Hove Albion aren’t bad either.

Midfielders

Paul Pogba, Manchester United, £8.0M

The enigmatic Frenchman comes in as a sleeper for really the first half of the season. A mix of Manchester United not having a fixture in Gameweek 1, with him not being the most popular United midfield choice to begin this year (Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Martial are both being selected by more than 15% of FPL managers) lead Pogba to be overlooked by more than 97% of users. Without a difficult rated matchup until nearly the halfway point of the season, Pogba could pick up some serious points and hoist you up the leaderboards after not seeing a lot of playing time until after the restart last season.

Mateusz Klich, Jack Harrison, Leeds United, £5.5M

In Leeds’ first Premier League game in 16 years, this duo scored a goal apiece against reigning champion Liverpool in a 4-3 defeat. At a bargain basement price for a mid, getting them against fellow promoted side Fulham may not be the worst idea. Maybe the goals keep coming as the search for this year’s early season Teemu Pukki-style goal scorer begins.

Daniel Podence, Wolverhampton Wanderers, £5.5M

Podence played in Nuno Espirito Santo’s front three in last week’s 2-0 opening win over Sheffield, dished out an assist and had a clean sheet. He may be a better long-term option than a short-term play with Manchester City on the docket this week, but the 24-year-old Portuguese import is someone certainly worth considering.

Forwards

Callum Wilson, Newcastle United, £6.5M

After scoring in Newcastle’s 2-0 win over West Ham in the opener, we’re keeping him in our sleeper lineup with a home fixture on Sunday against Brighton. It definitely seemed like the Magpies were just a consistent striker away from being so much more potent offensively, and Wilson could be that guy.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Everton, £7.0M

It was evident against Spurs how much of a different a world class midfielder like James Rodriguez is going to make a difference for Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin up front. The latter was the beneficiary of the goal last week and will be in position to do so again against West Brom, Palace and Brighton moving forward.
