Gautam Adani (62) and his family have claimed the top spot in the 2024 Hurun India Rich List, surpassing Mukesh Ambani with a staggering wealth of Rs 11.6 lakh crore. The report reveals that India witnessed the emergence of a new billionaire every five days in the previous year.
The wealth calculations presented in the list are based on the snapshot taken on 31st July 2024.Anas Rahman Junaid, Founder and Chief Researcher of Hurun India, said, “India is emerging as Asia’s wealth creation engine! While China saw a 25% decline in its number of billionaires, India experienced a 29% increase, reaching a record 334 billionaires.”
According to an ET report, in the 2024 Hurun India Rich List, Mukesh Ambani secured the second position with a wealth of Rs 1,014,700 crore, followed by Shiv Nadar & family of HCL Technologies in third place with Rs 314,000 crore.

Cyrus S Poonawalla & family of Serum Institute of India and Dilip Shanghvi of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries hold the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

Over the last five years, six individuals have consistently maintained their presence in the India Top 10. Gautam Adani & family lead the list, followed by Mukesh Ambani & family, Shiv Nadar, Cyrus S. Poonawalla & family, Gopichand Hinduja & family, and Radhakishan Damani & family.
The youngest billionaire on the 2024 Hurun India Rich List is Kaivalya Vohra, aged 21, co-founder of Zepto, a $5 billion quick commerce startup. Aadit Palicha, his 22-year-old co-founder, is the second youngest on the list.
Notably, Indian movie star Shah Rukh Khan made his debut on the Hurun India Rich List, primarily due to the increasing value of his holdings in the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders. The entertainment industry’s Hurun India Rich Listers collectively added Rs 40,500 crores in a single year, with seven new entrants.
