Helicopter Tracking Shot Of New Women’s World Champion Road Cyclist Deserves Oscar

“Best tracking shot ever.”

“Stunning.”

“That deserves its own gold medal.”

Social media is going into overdrive for a fabulous tracking shot of the eventual winner of the women’s road race at the UCI Road Cycling World Championships in Italy, September 26.

The long lens shot of Dutchwoman Anna van der Breggen was taken from a broadcast helicopter and beamed around the world. Van der Breggen went on to the win the race, taking place in Imola, Italy.

A couple of days beforehand the rider also won the women’s individual time trial title after American favorite Chloe Dygert crashed into a barrier.

The Emilia-Romagna region of Italy was a late stand-in to host the world championships, with coronavirus-restrictions preventing the series of races being held in Switzerland.
