Here’s What England’s ‘Super Saturday’ Looks Like As Pubs Reopen (Photos)

TOPLINE: Americans will celebrate Independence Day Saturday, but their Anglo cousins across the pond also will have a taste of their own freedom, as pubs across England open their doors for the first time in months in what has been dubbed “Super Saturday.”

  • July 4 is when English businesses like pubs, salons, restaurants, movie theaters and hotels are allowed to welcome back visitors since the Covid-19 lockdown was announced in March, though they must follow a slate of social-distancing rules.
  • The Sun guessed pubgoers would drink 15 million pints on Saturday alone, and police have reminded drinkers to behave themselves, with National Police Chiefs’ Council chair Martin Hewitt saying in a statement that Covid-19 “still presents a significant and deadly threat to public health.”
