‘Hubie Halloween’ Is Seconds Away From Becoming The First Comedy On Netflix To Achieve This Rare Milestone

No one can argue with Adam Sandler’s incredible success on Netflix. After the actor’s initial six-movie deal—which included The Ridiculous 6, The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler, The Week Of and Murder Mystery—brought such incredible streaming numbers to the platform, Netflix decided to extend the deal by four more movies for the price tag of $250 million.

And now in addition to Uncut Gem’s landmark performance earlier in the year, Hubie Halloween is dominating the fall season on Netflix like no other movie has in quite some time.

In fact, Hubie Halloween is on the verge of achieving something that no other comedy has ever done on Netflix.

Today, Sandler’s holiday flick saw its ninth consecutive day atop the Daily Top 10 charts. That made Hubie Halloween just the fifth movie to ever see a #1 streak last that long. Spenser Confidential stands above the rest with 18 consecutive days, while Project Power sits in second place with 13 straight days. And then two other comedies round out that group of five: The Wrong Missy and The Kissing Booth 2.

Which means that if Sandler’s latest flick can hold onto the #1 position for just one more day, then the movie’s first-place reign will hit double digits and make a solid case for Hubie Halloween being the most popular comedy of Netflix’s Top 10 era.

And it won’t be long before Hubie Halloween breaks even more records. I know this because of a new points-based system I created that allows me to track movie and show performance on Netflix. Based on where and how much a film ranks on the Daily Top 10 list, I assign points and keep track of how well a movie performs over a longer period of time.

And few movies have had the kind of Top 10 success Hubie Halloween has had so far. The comedy’s nine-day stint at #1 has resulted in the maximum possible 90 points—that’s good enough for second place on the October Top 10 list. So far this month, Hubie Halloween ranks behind American Murder: The Family Next Door, which so far has amassed 136 points in October. But the documentary also had a seven-day head start on Hubie Halloween, and it shouldn’t be long before Sandler’s film catches up and takes over the monthly #1 spot.

On the Fall Top 10 list, Hubie Halloween currently ranks in third place, behind American Murder (which currently owns 146 points) and Enola Holmes (143 points). But Enola Holmes has already exited the Top 10 charts, while American Murder has already begun its descent. So, once again, soon Hubie Halloween should grab hold of the first-place position.

If we can imagine a world where Hubie Halloween matches a big-budget film like Project Power and holds onto the #1 position for at least four more days, then Sandler’s latest comedy will become one of 18 films in 2020 to reach a threshold of 130 points. And even if Hubie Halloween’s first-place reign ends tomorrow because of Netflix’s latest drama The Trial of Chicago 7, the comedy will still undoubtedly continue to rack up points and move further and further up the 2020 charts.

At the very least: if Hubie Halloween can keep pace with David Spade’s comedy The Wrong Missy, which pulled in 187 points earlier this year (which is the fifth-most of any movie on Netflix), then Sandler’s film will indisputably become the most popular comedy on Netflix in 2020.
