IHeartRadio To Throw Virtual Prom For The Class Of 2020 Co-Hosted By Dua Lipa

Audio giant iHeartRadio announced Thursday (April 30) that it will be throwing a virtual prom for the class of 2020, after proms across the country were postponed or cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The four-hour on-air celebration, co-hosted by pop singer Dua Lipa and KISS-FM’s Jojo Wright, will be broadcasted across all iHeartRadio stations, including iHeartRadio’s Hit Nation, on Friday, May 8 at 8 p.m. local time.

iHeartRadio Prom will be filled with celebrity DJ mixes from Joe Jonas, Diplo, Marshmello, will.i.am, Martin Garrix, Dillon Francis, and Loud Luxury. The virtual event will also feature special messages for the class of 2020 from John Legend, Noah Cyrus, Sabrina Carpenter, Sofia Carson, and Trevor Daniel.

Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi will kick off the first slow dance with a special performance of his intimate ballad, “Before You Go.”

“Prom is such a significant milestone for high school students across the country. Through the power of radio, we are excited to bring prom to the to the safety of our listeners living rooms, with some of the biggest names in music performing for the special occasion,” Wright said in a statement.

Fans who submit photos in their “best prom” outfits on iHeartRadio’s social platforms, with the hashtag #iHeartProm and #iHeartDuaLipa, are eligible to win a virtual prom meet and greet with Lipa following the event.

iHeartRadio Prom is one of many virtual prom ceremonies that have been put on remotely for the class of 2020. John Krasinski held a virtual prom on April 19 as part of his popular YouTube series, Some Good News. The feel-good prom featured appearances by Billie Eilish, Chance the Rapper, The Jonas Brothers, and Rainn Wilson, Krasinski’s former The Office castmate.

Earlier this month, iHeartMedia unveiled multiple cost-saving measures, including pay reductions for senior management and furloughs for non-essential staff, as the company aims to save $250 million amid the coronavirus pandemic.
