J Balvin Scores No. 2 Spot On Top Latin Albums Chart

J Balvin made some big moves on the Top Latin Albums chart with his latest album, Colores, for the week of April 4th. He previously debuted at No. 32 in his first week on the listing, and now, he has jumped to No. 2 in the subsequent week following Bad Bunny’s lead at No. 1 with YHLQMDLG

While he’s nearing the No. 1 spot on the Top Latin Albums chart, Colores currently stands at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, and has earned the second-largest streaming week of the year for a Latin album with 29 million on-demand streams. He also scored No. 2 on the Latin Rhythm Albums chart.

When it comes to the Latin charts, J Balvin has consistently performed well. He went on to garner three No. 1 hit records on the Top Latin Albums chart with his sets Energía, Vibras and Oasis. Energia spent an impressive 179 weeks on the listing. The Colombian native has a total of five top 10 albums on the Latin Albums chart — the other two being La Familia and now, Colores.

Taking a look back at his discography, his highest scoring record to date was his collaboration album Oasis with Bad Bunny, which spent 34 weeks in total on the Billboard 200. It reached 9th place on the albums chart, earning his first top 10 hit.

J Balvin earned his first No. 1 on the Hot 100 alongside Bad Bunny and Cardi B with the summer anthem, “I Like It,” while his 2017 jam “Mi Gente” featuring Willy William and Beyonce, peaked at No. 3 — giving him two top 10 hits.

While J Balvin has never had a No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 albums chart, it is important to note that it’s not an easy feat for an all-Spanish-language album to reach the top spot.

Luckily, hope is brewing. Most recently, Bad Bunny made a historic debut at No. 2 with his latest effort, YHLQMDLG, earning 179,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. It also was the biggest streaming week for a Latin album. With the explosion of música urbana, there’s without a doubt that power players can soon rise to victory. It’s only a matter of time before they do.
