During a songwriters battle with Sean Garrett on Saturday (March 28), The-Dream played an unreleased version of JAY-Z’s “Holy Grail” featuring none other than himself.

“JAY’s probably gonna kill me for playing this,” The-Dream shared during his impressive set

Hov apparently wasn’t too upset because he unveiled the reference track on Sunday (March 29) via Tidal, his music streaming platform, after fans lost it over the unheard version.

The released song, which lives on JAY’s Magna Carta Holy Grail, featured vocals from Justin Timberlake. The 2013 single went on to peak at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and Magna Carta Holy Grail spent 37 weeks on the Billboard 200 albums chart, scoring a top placement on the listing.

The Bed-Stuy rapper is one of the most iconic MCs to date, garnering 14 No. 1 hit records on the Billboard 200 chart with projects such as Watch the Throne, In My Lifetime Vol. 1, American Gangster, The Blueprint, Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life and 4:44, among others. He has 23 entries in total on the Billboard 200, and 16 are top 10 hits.

JAY had 100 songs make the Billboard Hot 100 listing and four of which were No. 1 hits, including “Empire State of Mind” with Alicia Keys, “Umbrella” with Rihanna, “Crazy In Love” with his wife Beyoncé and “Heartbreaker” with Mariah Carey. Out of 100 tracks, 21 were top 10 hits on the same listing.

JAY-Z re-launched Tidal today five years ago in a special ceremony in Miami. Beyoncé, Rihanna, J. Cole and Kanye West were a few of the guests at the affair to announce that they would serve as TIDAL partners.
