Justice Department Drops Michael Flynn Case

TOPLINE

The Justice Department drops Michael Flynn’s case—Flynn pleaded guilty to charges, before withdrawing that plea—saying the FBI’s counterintelligence investigation of Flynn, then-Trump’s national security advisor, was “untethered” and “unjustified,” according to documents obtained by the Associated Press

KEY FACTS

Attorney General William Barr approved the case’s dismissal this week, after Jeff Jensen, the U.S. attorney on Flynn’s case recommended that the Justice Department drop it last week.

This comes after Flynn pleaded guilty in Mueller’s investigation, acknowledging he lied to the FBI about conversations with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak involving election interference.

“I concluded the proper and just course was to dismiss the case,” Jensen said in a statement. “I briefed Attorney General Barr on my findings, advised him on these conclusions, and he agreed.”
