Juventus Offer Star Right Back De Sciglio To FC Barcelona

Juventus have offered star right back Mattia De Sciglio to FC Barcelona, according to a report.

Ever since last summer, when it appeared that a deal to see Ivan Rakitic and Federico Bernardeschi head in opposite directions might be reached, the two European heavyweights have been in constant contact at the negotiating table.

Talk of the aforementioned proposal was reignited in the January transfer window, yet for a second time both players stayed put. Instead, Juventus bought Barça’s B team star Alejandro Marques for around $9mn while Brazilian midfielder Matheus Pereira became a member of the Blaugrana’s B team.

Joining on a free loan until the end of June, the Brazilian can be bought permanently for $8.8mn, which must be paid in two installments.

Sticking with descendants of South America’s largest country however, Juventus have made inquiries as to the availability of Arthur in recent weeks, which sent shockwaves through a Culer fanbase that believed the 23-year-old was earmarked as a pillar of their club’s future.

The outbreak of COVD-19 has changed soccer as we know it, though, and while struggling to raise the funds for Neymar and Lautaro Martinez, it has become known that every single Barça star can be approached save for Lionel Messi, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Frenkie de Jong.

This means that right back Nelson Semedo, despite being one of 2019/2020’s star performers, may be moved on too, which has, according to Mundo Deportivo, prompted Juventus to offer Mattia De Sciglio to the La Liga champions.

As writes Gabriel Sans on Monday morning, Barça have confirmed to the Catalan sports daily newspaper that both the Italians and the player’s representatives have made De Sciglio available to them, with the 27-year-old no longer featuring in Maurizio Sarri’s plans.

Able to play with both feet and therefore fill in at left back in the absence of Jordi Alba, as did Nelson Semedo to great effect earlier this term, De Sciglio is also an international capped 31 times by his country and was once dubbed the “Little Maldini”.

Injuries have plagued him the past couple of years, yet he would surely provide a much cheaper alternative to the likes of Joao Cancelo from Manchester City even if the Premier League

giants are interested in a Portuguese-for-Portuguese swap involving Semedo.
