Los Angeles Chargers Reveal Updated Logo And Announce New Uniforms Coming Soon

Just one day after the Los Angeles Rams unveiled their new set of logos for the upcoming season and beyond, another NFL team has decided to unveil part of their new look as well. As it turns out, SoFi Stadium’s AFC representative will also have a somewhat new look heading into the next season. In what was a bit of a surprise announcement, the Los Angeles Chargers unveiled an updated primary logo and also revealed that they were going to have new uniforms on the way “in less than a month.”

Fortunately, the updated logo isn’t much of a departure from what you would normally expect from the Chargers. It was very clear that the Chargers knew that they had a good foundation to build upon and instead of trying to come up with a brand-new look for their brand-new stadium, they cleaned up their previous primary logo and simplified the logo as much as they could without turning it into something that was plain or boring.

Navy blue appears to have been completely removed from the team’s color scheme and it’s evident that the Chargers has decided to fully embrace their famous shade of powder blue and yellow as their new color scheme going forward. There were actually some hints that the Chargers were eventually going to make this move — during the 2019 season, the Chargers promoted their former alternate powder blue uniform to their primary home uniform, they also changed their helmet’s facemask from navy blue to yellow as well. They also resurrected and updated a couple of logos from their days in the old American Football League and there wasn’t a trace of navy blue in any of those logos.

Keeping in mind the fact that they will be moving into the new SoFi Stadium with the Los Angeles Rams, it now makes plenty of sense that the Chargers would decide to have a new look to coincide their move to the new stadium. So while the announcement may be a bit of a surprise, it’s a surprise that is actually a very sensible decision on the part of the team.

As far as the uniforms go, the situation for the Chargers is somewhat similar to what the situation appears to be for the Rams and their new uniforms when it comes to speculation. It’s pretty safe to assume that the Chargers’ new look will stick to the look that the team has had for their entire existence. The Chargers themselves are hanging their proverbial hats on the fact that they currently have the “best uniform in sports” and have also stated that they are not going to “reinvent the wheel with wild new design,” either. As such, I’d expect to see white helmets with the new Bolt logo, powder blue jerseys with the Bolts on the shoulders and white pants with the Bolts running down the legs.

If the Chargers have indeed decided to simply update their uniforms with the new logo and font as well, then the Chargers may in fact end up with a legitimate claim to having the best uniform in sports. Powder blue and yellow is a very fitting color scheme for the Chargers as a franchise and it’s absolutely a good sign to see the team fully embrace that look as they make their move into their new home for the foreseeable future.
