Manny Pacquiao Vs. Conor McGregor Odds: Somehow They’re Even More Ridiculous Than The Floyd Mayweather Fight

UFC star Conor McGregor said Friday on Twitter that his next fight will be against boxing star Manny Pacquiao in the Middle East, and his manager, Audie Attar, confirmed to ESPN that the two sides were in talks. Though Attar said a deal isn’t done, the Pacquiao vs. McGregor odds have already been released by at least one online sports book.

And they’re ludicrous.

According to Bovada, Pacquiao is a -450 favorite, meaning you’d have to wager $450 to win $100, while McGregor is +325 (earn $325 on a $100 bet). The reason those odds are ridiculous: Pacquiao is one of the best boxers of the past 20 years, and though he’s 41 years old and likely won’t fight at all in 2020, he’s coming off a highly impressive victory against Keith Thurman.

He’s won four of his past five bouts, and though he’s well past his prime, he’s still one of the five-best welterweights in the world.

McGregor has boxed once. And he got blown out by Floyd Mayweather in 2017.

Yes, McGregor did win the first three rounds of that fight, but it was rather clear that Mayweather was carrying him and wanting to see what the boxing neophyte could accomplish in the first 10 minutes or so. By the fourth round, Mayweather was in control and then had no issues stopping McGregor in the 10th round.

For the Mayweather matchup, McGregor started at about a 10/1 underdog, but there were plenty of bets made on McGregor that I assume came from MMA fans who truly believed McGregor could handle an aging Mayweather who had been retired for the previous two years. Eventually, McGregor dropped to a 4/1 underdog. Then, this happened.

But it was a rich experience for both. Mayweather made about $275 million for his performance, while McGregor walked away with about $85 million.

Knowing that the sports books’ biggest goal is to inspire betting action on both sides, I saw one gambling expert guessing at the opening odds for Pacquiao vs. McGregor. Here was my reaction.

And that was followed by the Bovada revelation.

In short, I think McGregor has virtually no chance vs. Pacquiao if that fight ever happens, no matter what the early odds tell you.
