Mariah Carey Continues Christmas Legacy With Star-Studded Holiday Special

The queen of Christmas Mariah Carey is kicking off the holiday season with some much-needed joy and cheer. The legendary pop star dropped a teaser for the Apple

TV+ special Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special, which features a star-studded lineup including Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Snoop Dogg and more.

Narrated by Tiffany Haddish, the comedian launches into the preview clip by describing the year in a very appropriate way: “I got a great story to tell you. T’was the night before Christmas and 2020 had been rough.”

Mariah Carey here to the rescue! The trailer provides some hope when it introduces the iconic artist, who appears on-camera with an optimistic demeanor and an enthusiastic attitude ready to experience the holiday season with “magic.”

The “We Belong Together” singer previously teased a photo of three director’s chairs with the initials “AG,” “MC” and”JH” back in October, giving speculation that the dynamic trio was due for a collaboration. Now, it’s confirmed that the larger-than-life singers are coming together for a special Christmas extravaganza.

The singer-songwriter’s hit “All I Want for Christmas” is a holiday staple, maintaining relevancy for more than two decades. 25 years later, the jingle went on to finally hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart last November, extending her chart success to 19 No. 1s on the simultaneous chart. She holds the record for the most hits on the Hot 100 for a solo artist. The only other act that leads with more No. 1 singles is The Beatles, who have 20 No. 1s.

She even set a new record when she became the first artist to have a No. 1 song on the Hot 100 in four separate decades after “All I Want for Christmas” scored a top placement in 2019.

The classic tune’s revived influence each year proves that Carey’s musical innovation was ahead of its time in the ‘90s — creating joy, rhythm and exquisite art that transcends time. It aged better with time (like fine wine) and the proof is in her chart success and streaming numbers each year, which rises higher and higher year after year.

The only other holiday No. 1 hit on the Hot 100 is The Chipmunks’ “The Chipmunk Song” (with David Seville), which stayed atop the listing for four weeks in 1958 and 1959.

“All I Want for Christmas” has already surpassed streaming figures by 160% in comparison to the year before. If Carey maintains this momentum, the iconic track is on track to hit the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for another year (yet again). It’s actually looking likely as her special will most likely help boost overall streaming numbers.

The yuletide jam has also just entered the Top 10 at No. 3 on the Global Spotify listing with 4.57 million streams.

Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special will be available for streaming on Apple TV+ on December 4th.
