‘MTV Unplugged’ Announces New At Home Livestream Series

On Friday, April 3rd, MTV announced to fans all around the around that they will now have a front-row seat to performances from some of their favorite artists as apart of their newest rendition of the popular ‘MTV Unplugged’ franchise. MTV Unplugged at Home’ is the latest program shifting to livestreams in wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The program hopes to bring together fans and their favorite musicians during this difficult time, along with showcasing how people can still be able to remain connected through the power of music and entertainment safely in the comfort of their own homes.

“Reimagining the beloved music series as a multi-platform digital experience, the new mini-concert series will feature stripped-down, acoustic sets from artists performing their greatest hits, enabling music enthusiasts to find comfort in their new realities alongside fellow fans.” MTV said in a release statement earlier today.

The series kicked off with with a performance from singer-songwriter Alessia Cara and is expected to have performances from Shaggy, FINNEAS, Melissa Etheridge,

CNCO, Monsta X, and Jewel. These acts follow Grammy award-winner Wyclef Jean, UK recording artist Yungblud, and multi-platinum pop/R&B recording artist JoJo.

The new special edition series is apart of MTV’s newest launch, #AloneTogether — a creative social media campaign with designed to help urge young viewers on the importance of social distancing in order to slow down the spread of coronavirus. There are currently a reported 277,828 COVID-19 cases in the United States and over a million reported cases globally.

‘MTV Unplugged’ first made its debut in 1989 and quickly became a staple of MTV’s programming throughout the 90s. The show became popular for it’s showcasing of mutual artists playing acoustic versions of their most popular tracks. Since it’s creation, the show has featured appearances from artists such as Lauryn Hill, Bob Dylan, Nirvana, Jay-Z, Miley Cyrus, Lil Wayne, Adele and several other talented acts.

The performances will be available to stream on MTV Youtube, Instagram, and Twitter. Additional artists will be announced at a later date.
