NBC’s Peacock Hopes To Reach Locked-Down Audience With Soft Launch

TOPLINEPeacock, the long-awaited streaming platform from NBCUniversal, will be available for some customers as early as Wednesday as the service hopes to jump on the increase in streaming views brought on by coronavirus shelter-in-place.

KEY FACTS

In a press call Tuesday, executives of parent company Comcast announced that some Comcast customers will get a sneak peek of the subscription service ahead of the wider release on July 15.

According to Reuters, viewers can count on seeing 15,000 hours of content, including familiar shows like “30 Rock” and “Jurassic Park,” along with early access to Jimmy Fallon’s “The Tonight Show: At Home Edition.”

According to the Los Angeles Times, “The Office,” a prior hit on rival Netflix, will be available on the platform starting next year.

The platform, for now, will feature a limited amount of new content, as filming and production in Hollywood has been disrupted during the pandemic.

Subscribers to Comcast’s Xfinity X1 or Flex TV services should be able to access Peacock Premium for free on Wednesday, execs said.
