KEY FACTS
The number of new coronavirus hospitalizations fell to 831—the lowest level since March 24, when cases were still steadily rising last month.
Although the state continues to see a flattening curve with the number of coronavirus infections on a steady decline, there are still around 900 new cases being reported everyday, Cuomo said.
Another 299 New Yorkers died from the virus since Friday, and while that number was up from 289, it was the second day in a row that daily casualties were less than 300.
“It’s still not dropping at the rate we’d like to see,” Cuomo said about the death toll. “So that is bad news.”
As part of an effort to protect essential workers, who he said are “critical to the fight against the virus,” Cuomo announced that the MTA would begin disinfecting subway cars at least every 24 hours.
The governor also said that New York would be distributing 7 million more cloth masks to people across the state and giving $25 million to help food banks cope with higher demand.
