New York Knicks Close To Acquiring Derrick Rose From Detroit Pistons: Reports

With the Detroit Pistons embracing a full rebuild around younger players, they’re in talks to trade former MVP and All-Star guard Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks, per The Athletic. Yahoo Sports reports a deal is close but not done.

Both Rose and the NBA-worst 5-17 Pistons, under first-year general manager Troy Weaver, agree that a trade would be best for both sides, Shams Charania and James Edwards III reported. A deal to the Knicks would reunite Rose with head coach Tom Thibodeau, who was his coach with the Chicago Bulls when Rose won the 2010-2011 NBA MVP award and reached three All-Star games.

In 15 games this season, Rose is averaging 14.2 points and 4.2 assists per game but doesn’t appear to be in Detroit’s long-term plans.

Young New York guard Frank Ntilikina is a name discussed in trade conversations with Rose, per SNY’s Ian Begley.

Under Thibodeau, the Knicks are a surprising 11-13 after Saturday’s home win over Portland and boast a top 10 defense led by breakout star Julius Randle, emerging second-year guard RJ Barrett and rookie guard Immanuel Quickley.

There are several teams interested in Rose, per The Athletic, and he’s out for Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers due to personal reasons. Rose is on the last year of a two-year, $15 million contract.
