Nicki Minaj And Doja Cat Both Score Their First No. 1 Hit With ‘Say So’

After what turned out to be a tighter than expected race for the top spot on the Hot 100, a winner has been crowned, and the champions are a newcomer and one of the most successful figures in the music industry.

Doja Cat’s first proper chart smash “Say So” rises to No. 1 on the all-genre singles tally this frame, jumping from No. 6 to the highest rung. In doing so, it has become the pop singer’s first leader on the list just weeks after becoming her inaugural top 10.

“Say So” benefits from a recently released remix that features Nicki Minaj. The new version was released a little over a week ago in an attempt to push the catchy tune to the peak position, and it worked beautifully. Fans of Doja Cat were interested in hearing the updated take on the beloved single, while Minaj’s legion of followers rushed to buy and stream it as well.

While it may be difficult to believe, “Say So” is Minaj’s first No. 1 hit on the Hot 100. The most successful female rapper of all time has come close to claiming the throne before, but somehow she’s never managed to rise all the way. This latest smash is her eighteenth top 10 on the list.

The new champion is now the bestselling track in the country, having sold 66,000 copies. It is also the second most popular song on radio in the U.S.

“Say So” serves as the fifth single from Doja Cat’s sophomore album Hot Pink, which was released in November of last year. The title has thus far peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard 200, but it could climb to new heights in the coming frames thanks to the success of its latest promotional cut.

Doja Cat and Minaj’s big win replaces Travis Scott and Kid Cudi’s (otherwise known as The Scotts, at least for this one release) “The Scotts” at No. 1. The collaborative cut debuted in first place last time around.

“Say So” faced a tough battle for the top spot against Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage,” which looked for a while like it was going to win the week. The rapper employed the same strategy as Doja Cat, bringing in Beyoncé to add some flair to the cut. Her inclusion helped the tune rise into the top 10 for the first time last week, but it wasn’t able to best the powerful pairing of Doja Cat and Minaj.
