Nirmala Sitharaman presents Union Budget 2021, quotes Rabindranath Tagore – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2021 in Parliament on Monday.
Stating that the budget was prepared under circumstances “never seen before” due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Sitharaman quoted Rabindranath Tagore in her speech.
She said, “Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark.”
Referring to this quote, finance minister added that this moment in history is the “dawn of a new era, where India is well-poised to be the land of hope and promise.”
Sitharaman started her budget speech by recounting the unprecedented circumstances which the nation and the world had to go through. She also recognised the service rendered by Covid warriors during the crucial months of the pandemic.
Sitharaman, who had in her first budget in 2019 replaced leather briefcase that had been for decades used for carrying budget documents with a traditional red cloth ‘bahi-khata’, had earlier this month stated that the budget for the fiscal year beginning April will be “like never before”.
