NXT Pummels AEW Dynamite As WWE Counterprograms Fyter Fest

WWE NXT scored a rare one-sided victory in the latest week of the Wednesday Night wars, and its first ratings win since the “One Final Beat” broadcast on April 9.

Dynamite drew an average viewership of 633,000 down 18% from 772,000 last week. Dynamite came in at No. 17 in the Top 150 original cable telecasts among the 18-49 demographic. This was the lowest total viewership in AEW Dynamite history. WWE NXT garnered 786,000 viewers, up 5% from 746,000 last week. NXT came in at No. 26 in the 18-49 demo.

NXT has been gaining traction for weeks now, with the tides of the Wednesday Night Wars now officially beginning to turn in WWE’s favor.

As the Wednesday Night Wars continue to soldier forward amid a record spike in cases within the state of Florida, WWE NXT is poised to counter-program AEW’s Fyter Fest with The Great American Bash, which is now expected to air over two weeks per WWE advertising.

The counter-programming move is nothing new from WWE, which infamously counter-programmed AEW’s Fight for the Fallen, leading to early tension between the two promotions and even criticism in the form of a since-deleted tweet from Kenny Omega.

Dynamite featured a press conference between Jake Hager and Cody ahead of their upcoming clash for the TNT Championship on Night 1 of Fyter Fest. The main event segment focused around Chris Jericho and the surging Orange Cassidy, as the two will square off on Night 2 of Fyter Fest.

WWE NXT was headlined by a Triple Threat match for the NXT North American Championship as Keith Lee advanced for the right to face Adam Cole in a winner-take-all match for both the NXT and NXT North American Championships.

Lee and Cole will square off in two weeks on the July 8 broadcast of The Great American Bash.
