Ozuna Ties Daddy Yankee For The Second-Most Hits On The Latin Chart

The Black Eyed Peas are back on the Hot Latin Songs chart this week with their new single “Mamacita,” which features newcomer J.Rey Soul and Latin favorite Ozuna, who has established himself as one of the most successful names in the field in a very short period of time. As “Mamacita” opens at No. 23, the superstar claims another win on Billboard’s ranking of the most popular Spanish-language cuts in the U.S., and in doing so, he has matched one of the greatest of all time.

Ozuna nabs his seventy-fourth Hot Latin Songs charting single with “Mamacita,” and that sum is enough to put him on the same level as Daddy Yankee when it comes to the most placements on the genre-specific list. The two musicians have been competing with one another for a while now, and while Daddy Yankee recently pulled ahead of Ozuna with another win, the two tie once again.

Both Daddy Yankee and Ozuna are nine charting hits behind Bad Bunny, who leads all artists with 83 Hot Latin Songs placements throughout his career. At the beginning of 2020 the current champion sat behind several acts, but once his new album YHLQMDLG arrived, the songs featured on the set upped his count considerably, and in no time he leapfrogged over everyone and raised the bar.

Now, it’s a race between Daddy Yankee and Ozuna to see who can score the next hit on the Hot Latin Songs chart, pulling ahead of the other in the process and pushing them down to third place on the ranking of the musicians with the most hit songs on the Spanish list. 

Currently, Ozuna only occupies two spots on the Hot Latin Songs chart, while Daddy Yankee claims three. It’s not clear which one will score another hit next, but both acts need to look out for J Balvin, who now commands the fourth-most placements on the Billboard ranking, and he racks them up just as quickly as his fellow Latin stars, so it’s possible he’ll advance again soon.
