Post Malone’s ‘Circles’ Has Now Spent The Second-Most Weeks Inside The Top Five

Post Malone’s “Circles” only managed to spend three nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100, but since then, it has barely moved from the highest spot on the chart. In fact, it has only slipped a few rungs, and it continues to live inside the top five week after week, including now. The tune, already one of the hip-hop/pop star’s biggest successes, is up from No. 5 to No. 4 this time around, and by landing another turn inside the upper half of the top 10, it has moved up once again on an all-time ranking.

“Circles” now stands as the song with the second-most weeks spent inside the top five in the history of the Hot 100, which dates back six decades. 

Post Malone’s most recent chart leader has now occupied space between Nos. 1 and 5 for 26 frames, which no track has stopped at…and the star’s smash isn’t likely to become the first to do so.

Last week, “Circles” was tied with both Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” and LeAnn Rimes’ “How Do I Live,” both of which spent a remarkable 25 frames inside the top five before falling outside the region. Now, he has advanced past those beloved cuts, and the superstar is only one turn away from tying with two tunes for the all-time record.

Both Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” and The Chainsmokers and Halsey’s “Closer” managed 27 spins inside the top five, and they are currently tied for the best showing ever, but it looks like they will have to make space and share the spotlight very soon. 

Seeing as it’s still charting at No. 4 (and advancing once again, which is unexpected for any piece of music that has already spent so much time so close to the peak), the odds that “Circles” will land somewhere inside the top five next week are good, at which point it will tie the greatest run in the arena yet. There is also a fair chance that Post Malone may break the record and see his blockbuster become the first song in history to appear between Nos. 1 and 5 for 28 frames, but that’s not a certainty yet.
