Prince William Was Reportedly Diagnosed With Coronavirus Back In April—But Kept It A Secret

Topline

Prince William, the second in line to the British throne, tested positive for the coronavirus in April—when cases in the U.K. began to rise exponentially—but kept his diagnosis under wraps to avoid worry over his condition, according to British media reports.

Key Facts

According to The Sun, which first reported the story, the Duke of Cambridge was infected with the coronavirus in April.

His diagnosis reportedly came only days after two other powerful British men tested positive: Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and William’s own father and the heir to the throne, Prince Charles, according to The Sun.

William thought announcing his own diagnosis would only cause alarm, an anonymous source told the newspaper, so the palace kept mum on his diagnosis.

Kensington Palace declined to comment to both The Sun and the BBC, according to the outlets.

Key Background

The U.K. has registered more than 1 million confirmed coronavirus cases and almost 47,000 deaths according to a tracker from Johns Hopkins University. A recent spike in new infections has led to the government to announce a second lockdown in England, set to begin this week.
