Ronda Rousey Continues To Lash Out At WWE’s ‘Soft Egos’

Ronda Rousey is not backing down from her comments about pro wrestling and its fans even after retorts from Alexa Bliss, Lana and locker room leader Nia Jax.

In fact, Rousey appears to be in the midst of a Twitter feud with all of the above stemming from comments made on Steve-O’s Wild Ride podcast.

“I love the WWE,” Rousey said.

“I had such a great time. I love all the girls in the locker room. Running out there and having fake fights for fun is just the best thing. I love choreography. I love acting. I love theater. Live theater and some of the last forms of live theater.”

It didn’t take long before Rousey’s former sistren in the women’s locker room responded:

Alexa Bliss’ tweet about being out for “almost a year” was in reference to a series of matches against Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam 2018 and Hell in a Cell 2018. After suffering multiple concussions from her matches with Rousey, Bliss missed a significant amount of time as her future began to come into question.

Bliss’ 2018 injuries became the subject of an IG Live group chat between Jax, Paige, Peyton Royce, Billie Kaye, Natalya and Renee Young. While Rousey was never mentioned by name, all signs pointed to the polarizing former UFC star being the unnamed person in this story:

“Speaking of Natty saying a backbone, I remember back when… I’m not going to mention any names. But Lexie [Alexa Bliss], well other than Lexi’s name,” Jax said.

“[Bliss] was working an angle and she was seriously getting hurt. A certain angle with a certain somebody, and I remember not saying anything, specifically because she wanted to be a team player, like, she as so nervous, she wants to be a team player. She didn’t want to be somebody who, like, ‘Oh, I can’t do this.’”

Ronda Rousey being implicated by her peers as a potentially dangerous worker adds a touch of irony to a quickly developing feud that started over comments about fake fighting.

Never one to back down, Rousey instead doubled down:

Rousey’s continued animosity toward WWE culture reportedly stems from the night the Southern California native was booed and jeered in Los Angeles. Chants of “you deserve it” reigned down from the Staples Center despite Rousey taking a brutal beating from Charlotte at WWE Survivor Series.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio theorized:

“I knew when the Los Angeles fans booed Ronda Rousey, and when that Charlotte Flair angle happened…I knew, that at that point, everything changed,” said Meltzer.

“Her and Shayna, their mentality was, coming in, that the UFC fans are the worst, and the WWE fans are the best…it was all going along well, until that angle.”

Rousey’s hardened stance led to a response from Jax, who this time made no efforts to mince words as to whom she was talking to. In fact, not only did Jax mention Ronda by name, she issued a threat:

Being labeled a potentially dangerous wrestler is not the only thing Nia Jax has in common with Ronda Rousey as Jax —like Rousey—carries tremendous clout in the WWE locker room. Though she is hardly devoid of talent and will have a decorated WWE Hall of Fame career if she stays healthy, Jax’s connection to The Rock cannot be ignored.

Jax feeling compelled to confront WWE officials on Alexas Bliss’ behalf, as was suggested in her aforementioned story, is not a privilege enjoyed by many within WWE’s hierarchal locker room. That honor is reserved for those with clout and job security, and Nia Jax has both.

Should tensions between Rousey and Jax continue to rise, and assuming they are as real as Meltzer says they are, WWE will have to tread lightly in placating both parties. With WrestleMania 37 set for Los Angeles, Calif., WWE officials envision both The Rock and Southern California native Ronda Rousey both being part of the festivities. Before then, they’ll have the equally tricky task of managing a budding real-life feud between Rousey and Jax.
