Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney Buy Welsh Soccer Club Wrexham

The two Hollywood stars announced the deal’s approval by members Monday with a video poking fun at Wrexham’s sponsor, Ifor Williams, in a parody commercial for industrial trailers. 

“You may have never heard of Wrexham, the Racecourse Ground or Ifor Williams,” the owners-elect said in a video posted online by the club Monday. “But you will.”

Supporters of the team hope the pair will help revitalize the storied club, which is currently ranked 14th out of 23 teams in the National League, the fifth tier of English soccer.

According to a statement from the Wrexham Supporters Trust, more than 98% of members voted in favor of Reynold’s and McElhenney’s takeover.

“We’re humbled, and we’re already getting to work,” Reynolds said. 

The details of the deal still need to be finalized, according to the trust, and the takeover must be approved by the sport’s authorities.
